mg safari prop

Post by fishwithron2 »

Just installed one of those new safari prop and when under power it gives off a high pitch sound. so loud my partner at the back of the boat hears it. After 10 min of use I had to take it off and install my old 3 blade back on. It's a high pitch almost humming sound.
It's on a mg digital 82# and anybody else having this same problem ???

Did ya take off the package before sticking it on there?

I had one on my MG never noticed it, sold the thing and got a MK though.

Was your factory prop an issue in weeds before? I just posted about that problem my partner and I are having.

Yeah it was horrible see the other post. It stalled out and burned fuses like match heads.

I had the same experience, exactly.
I fished it for a day and a half, then switched back to my Kipawah, or whatever the MG version of it is called now.
The Safari prop may work great in weeds, but it's so noisy it has to scare the fish. It scared me! I had to pull it up and check to make sure I had it on right.

I was wondering if somehow I installed it wrong as all you do is slip the prop in and tigthen the lock. If it makes that much noise, imagine what it does to the fish.
Good thing I had my old prop in the boat as it would had been along day with that noise. Going to check with Gene at The Hook and possible refund or credit toward products.

I bought 2 of the safari props from Gene and am experiencing the same problem with noise. I thought it might be rubbing on the motor housing and would eventually wear in. NOT My big engine broke after 8 hours of fishing and I had to use the trolling motor to go the last 2 miles to the ramp. A little over 2 hours on constant at a mid range setting did not wear in the prop. It still makes noise and I have to wait until I get my 200 repaired before I can use the trolling motor again. Any help on this noise issue would be appreciated

PUT THE SAFARI ON THE FIRST TIME AND IT VIBRATED SO BAD CAME IN EARLY TOOK IT OFF AND RESEATED IT. IT HAS TO BE ON CENTERED AND ALL THE SEATED ON THE SHEAR PIN, IS AS QUIETE AS MOUSE NOW. SPIN IT WHEN YOU FINISH TIGHTENING AND SEE THAT IT IS EVEN

If I saw all these comments on the safari prop I wouldn't had bought one. I had the same problem as Mark P as it gave off a high iritating hum. After 10 min I replace it with my old 3 blade. Gene told me to file the back of the blade on top to give it and edge. Won't be able to try it out til next.

I use a hydrilla hacker and never have weed or noise issues.
