No Scope Tournaments For the Future?

Post by WB Staff »

Just looking at the competitiors in this No SCope Tournament, we were wondering, will No Scope Tournaments/Circuits become a big draw?
Here in the West too?
Any thoughts on who will win this one without Scopes?

This technology is still developing and as the price becomes more competitive the weekend “pro” bass anglers will buy it making this debate a mute point imo.
During spawn cycle this particular tournament is being contested FFS/Live Scope or “scope” has less advantage in visual depths the bass are on or near beds.
I believe what is needed is a new method to land the larger size bass without handling them by their jaw, similar to Musky capture, weighing and releasing within a few minutes. If the survival rate is high then catching the bass is less of a problem.

I think tournament bass fishing is almost an embarrassment anymore. Even the Kayak guys rigs have gotten out of hand. I'm done with it.
I wonder if a minor league type format with no livescope, no Pro's, no guys or guides that spend 200+ days on the water would do?

IMO the whole Livescope/FFS thing is like when baseball had it's steroid era, it is an enhancement that is positively affecting performance. Baseball banned it and so should the bass tournament community.

Even if I could afford it I wouldn't buy it. It's not what I'm about as a fisherman so I have no interest in it.

Have to agree - I’ve seen it first hand and I’m not down with it either. Call me old school, because that’s what I am. Like Rip said, it’s not what I’m about as a fisherman. I see guys staring down at their units at one bass and their lure, and missing a lot of what’s going on around them, like someone like me running the bank and bagging fish after fish, for example.

Bass fishing the last decade has lost young anglers to indoor technology, the sport was dying without the younger generation. FFS- Live Scope has drawn into our sport the generation we have been trying to incorage.
Catching bass has always been about location and finding that location has taken years of my time on the water for my generation. I have used sonar since the very early 60’s with flashers and topo maps and memory of seeing our lakes drawn down where I was successful. Like most of my generation I don’t need FFS-Live Scope technology to catch bass, did very well without it.
However it’s a time savor to locate bass in what Bill Murphy called the next frontier suspended bass over deep water, FFS-Live Scope opens that frontier.
We accept it and focus on how to catch & release heathy bass or close our eyes and watch the big bass population be decimated again.

I totally am on board with bringing young people into the sport, my 12 year old grandson and I went fishing this week and I told him although we caught fish, the best part for me is looking around and enjoying mother nature. We saw some hawks that I pointed out to him and had a real nice day out there. With FFS, everyone has blinders on to the beauty around them and are focused on the screen. You watch, as this evolves there will eventually be a talking fish finder connected to a trolling motor that will take you exactly to where the fish are, exactly what bait to use, etc. It's just a matter of time...

Ever wonder if the companies that manufactured these units are going to say maybe this was a bad idea.
