Senkos under a bobber?

Post by MB916 »

So I was organizing my tackle bag last night and and looking at my senkos and senko style baits. It occured to me that susspending them under a bobber may be a deadly tactic in some of these clear western reseviors. I'm sure I am not the first to think of this so just looking for any input from anyone that as tried this before.

Thanks,

There is a tachnique like this out there, its called a float n fly. it, a more finnesse tech. used with lllooonnnggg rods and ultra-light rods, and very light line, and jigs. There is no reason it should be just as good or maybe even better at times with a senko.

Jake,

Some years ago I was out on the Delta fun fishing with the one and only great fishing legend Seig Taylor and he was experimenting with a Senko under a bobber. It did not work that day but in theory why not!!!

I have caught a couple small fish using the technique it but nothing significant. I saw it on a TV show where they were targeting smalljaws and figured I'd give it a shot on LMB's. I didn't use a bobber though...I took the hooks off of an older Spook bait and used it as the float. Improved my casting distance significantly, but I only had the Senko down about 3.5 feet as I drifted it over weed lines. I have thought about doing it with a slip-float so I can target suspended bass in 10+ of water, but I haven't talked myself into putting my swimbait rods down long enough to actually try it.

All I am going to say is if your out fun fishing one day at...say Melones or McClure. Throw a senko on a bobber out and let if drift behind the boat. It works, and sometimes works very, very well. Great for wifes and kids, you can adjust the depth of the line and keep your kids bait in the water and off the bottom.
Don't ask about my username, all I need to say is check yours and check them often.

I saw the same show bassdaddy saw. The next weekend my wife and I went to Castaic. I took the hooks off an old large POPR, tied on 18" flouro 6lb leader and wacky rigged a 4 1/2" robo worm. I was throwing it on walls and over brush. It worked great. The fish were solid sized fish. Even my wife, looking up from her Good Houskeeping magazine, comented about the better sized fish. You could watch the fish on the wall slowly come up and eat the worm. The next weekend I went again and never got bit doing it. I've only had minimal success with it since.
