LADSON, S.C. – The ever-growing popularity in competitive high school and college-level bass fishing, and the benefits available to student anglers and their parents, is the focus for Shimano’s ‘Fishing School’ LIVE event starting at 8 pm EST (7 pm CST, 5 pm PST) this Wednesday, June 3 on Facebook and YouTube. This week host JP DeRose will lead a panel discussion with Shimano Youth Fishing Coordinator Frank Hyla, along with college bass team coaches including Seth Borton from Adrian (Mich.) College, Bethel University’s (McKenzie, Tenn.) Garry Mason, and Jon Rinderer from Mckendree University (Lebanon, Ill.). “Currently, Borton, Mason and Rinderer coach three of the top-seven ranked college bass teams in the country, with McKendree holding the top position in the latest Association of Collegiate Anglers rankings,” said Hyla. “They are all recognized experts in running successful programs, mentoring student anglers in both life and fishing skills, and are advocates in growing the sport of bass fishing.”

Along with Hyla discussing the goals and mission of Shimano’s Varsity Program, the coaches will talk about their schools and bass fishing teams, scholarship opportunities, the life of a student angler, and the process for how students - and their parents -can look into colleges where they can combine a solid education with their passion for bass fishing. Viewers will be able to comment and ask questions of the panel throughout the hour-long broadcast.
