Skeet Reese holding Kids Fishing Day to raise funds for community center

...The third annual Kids Fishing Day, presented by 2007 Angler of the Year Skeet Reese and the Meadow Vista Community Center, is set for Saturday.

While the Auburn professional sport fisherman wants to help get the local community center up and running, raising funds for the venue won’t be the highlight of his day.

“My main goal is to get kids fishing and having fun,” said Reese, who recently picked up a Bassmaster Elite Series win on West Point Lake in LaGrange, Ga. “Watching kids catch their first fish of their life, it doesn’t get any better for me. That’s the biggest reward for me. We’re also able to generate some revenue for the community center.”

Reese’s event has helped raise some $15,000 for the community center over the past two years.

Even though registration is full — 250 kids have already signed up — Reese said people can come down and enjoy the various festivities that will be taking place at Meadow Vista Park from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Activities on the day’s agenda include bounce houses, video games, face painting, candle making, laser tag, a car show and more.

An auction and raffle will also be held.

“Whatever we make from it,” Reese said, “goes to the community center.”

The 250 youth who preregistered will all receive a goody bag, consisting of fishing equipment from Reese’s sponsors. Dick’s Sporting Goods will also be giving away basketballs.

Nearly 2,000 people attended the fishing day last year...
