Re: Skunked
Yep...I got skunked last weekend on the Delta. I missed 2 good bites. My GF only got one bite all day and stuck a 5 1/2 pounder.
It doesnt happen too often but I get skunked from time to time.

Re: Skunked
Excellent question.. glad you asked... At Lake Mead for the FLW Stren, 26 Ho-anglers and 13 Pro anglers all got skunked for the last three days in a row.
Yes any angler can get skunked, but it usually only happens on Mead, Powell, or Havasu.

Re: Skunked
....not since I moved to Lakeport, knock wood. But I've been skunked before, & I'm sure it'll happen again SOMEday.
It's just a beating.....till you fight back.

Re: Skunked
I was watching an old Elite series and watched KVD catch a skunk one of the days.
since taking up the bigger swimbaits I've caught the skunk a few times but normally the last hour or so I try to throw a high percentage lure to gain back a some confidence

Re: Skunked
Everybody does here, and there. Its part of fishing. I got skunked last weekend at Folsom. But I did only fish it for about 3 hours. At least thats what I keep telling myself.

Re: Skunked
I am the king of skunks.
All the while I was reading about 30+ fish days on Oroville I was turning up nada.
I then bought a $550 fishfinder so I could see the fish laughing at me.
I then found out about the secret confidence baits and techniques that that everybody knew about but me and I can finally catch a few fish if I can find them.
I can hardly wait to go out again!

Everybody gets skunked every now and then. As Mike Kennedy used to say, thats why they call it fishing and not catching
Re: Skunked

Re: Skunked
The winter time is the time that is the hardest. Fish are usually deeper and don't have to eat much as their metabolism is slowed way down.
As the water warms up, they do too and then have to eat more to sustain life, thus they will look at your lure more fondly and with more entuhsiasm. So the trick is to learn how to fish differently in the winter and to slow waaaaay down- which I have a hard time doing and thus get skunked a lot too.
Hope that helps.
PS I've been to Japan and traveled all around the country making art for a month, I saw fifty million koi and THREE bass, so someone is lying.

Re: Skunked
Heck, Jeff Michels who won the Mead Stren this past week didn't boat a keeper on the final day and still won the tournament, he collected $25,000 and a new Ranger Boat!
Re: Skunked
guess you never been to biwa or ikihara to make your paintings? You should really stay out of the ponds and check out some real lakes... Biwa is the size of Mead and full of Florida Strain. If there was no bass here, the Japanese govt. wouldn't have passed a law to kill all bass!

Re: Skunked
Hey Kevin - So what do you anglers do? Do you actually kill the bass or break the law?
Re: Skunked
well we diffently dont kill them. We fight very hard againts it. The tour I fish has a waiver for there events. The others do not! We do a lot to make ourselves look better by cleaning the lakes and marinas up routinly trying to show the govt. we are not bad and either are the bass. But we dont kill them.
Re: Skunked
Cool.. I was just wondering about that!
I think we should kill all the stripers out here.. at least the ones in the reservoirs.. like Castaic etc.. Other than that --- Only Carp should be killed!

Re: Skunked
that wouldn't be to bad of an idea. we have a fish called Bora here, but they dont eat the same bait as the bass so its ok. The lakes are plenty full, in the summer there jumping every where and can get up to 2.5 feet long. We had one jump in the boat while idling to the other side of the small river and another bounce off the drivers consol. There usually down at the dam trying to jump over the wall and into the lock to get down stream for some reason...
Re: Skunked
What is the deal with the striper? They even have there own forum. Should I be hatting on striper also?

The Bora have heard about your reputation
To them you are the greatest Crappy Killer of all time. The ones that jump in your boat are playing a game similar to the running of the bulls. They are flirting with death It is something like Sepuku or Hara Kiri. the survivors have been telling the other Bora what you look like and when the see you they try to jump over the dam to get away from such a fearful fish killer. The very sight of you almost freezes their blood
Their name for you in japanese is "Bukka ni skeru kusurigania" You can get a true translation from one of your Japanese friends. Among certain other circles of the Bora your name is Bukka wa shina nakya na orimasin.
Both are names of great respect and admiration. You should be proud of your reputation

I was just kidding, as both the icon suggested and the report earlier of only 1 bass being alive in the country. I never saw a bass, nor was I into bass fishing seven years ago when I went, or I would have!!!!
About the 5 million koi, that too was fabricated.
It was more like 4.8 million. Here is one of my photos of them by
the way, with a little photo shop applied:
