Spook reel: 6:3 or 7:1
Spook reel: 6:3 or 7:1
Just wondering what you guy think about a High Burner reel for spooks.
Re: Spook reel: 6:3 or 7:1
Definitely 7:1 for covering more water and it's alot faster when fish start boiling after making a long cast you can recover line in a hurry. If I'm not mistaken you recover almost a 1 ft. of line more per revolution. MP
Re: Spook reel: 6:3 or 7:1
would you setup both topwater rods with 7:1?
Re: Spook reel: 6:3 or 7:1
yep I practice what I preach. To be honest if you don't make long cast like I do to cover as much water as possible I guess a 6:3 gear ratio would suit you fine. Typically when I'm throwing surface baits I'm searching and covering. Another huge plus is personally I don't set the hook on topwater to prevent from jerking the bait away from fish. When the fish takes the bait I reel till I feel pressure and then I reel set the fish. 1 revolution of the handle on a 7:1 is like moving your rod tip 3 ft. 2 reels is like 6 feet. You can really bury a hook in a fish especially on a long cast with the high speed reel with very little effort. MP
Re: Spook reel: 6:3 or 7:1
thanks thats exactly what i do. I fling that thing and search with it. If im on them then I fling till they stop and then pound them with the finesse.
Thanks I just opened my "newish" plfueger summit, ( i got sucked by that best of show ) It was having trouble casting and turns out a plastic rod thing feel out. Should have been attached somewhere on the reel.
Was planning on getting another Revo STX but thought " what the heck" I'll ask before I get the high speed.
Thanks for your time and thoughts. They are very welcomed.

Mike is dead on with his "hook set"
technique. I too do NOT "set" the hook but rather reel into it hard and load the rod up on the fish.
Far better hook up percentage by far.
7:1 is the way to go...
