Stealth 1 charge on the go

Post by bigdog »

Just wanted to say what a great job and a great charging system I just had installed by Mike Osgood owner of Equipment Pros. Wow what a difference in my battery power and it charges the trolling motor batteries when the big motor is on. If you want the absolute best in on board charging go see Mike for this outstanding system. Also, he gives fast professional service and exceptionally "clean" wiring.

Hey Dog,
Do you have a number for him. Would be interested in talking to him about the type of system you got. My batt's just took a dump on me at Clear Lake last weekend and coulda' used a system like this.... Had to call the day short after that long drive...

Pluggin??? How bout luggin? There's no power where I park my boat, so I have to pull the batts, charge them at home, then put 'em back. Being an old man with double hernias, luggin group 27 batts ain't no picnic. :(

So, I am most interested in that system. Looked around for something like it some time back, but couldn't find anything.

Scott Sweet from the southern board is a rep. I told him about this thread and he will post some info for you guys either late tonight or in the morning. I told him to keep it simple and not too high tech.

Stealth1 is a great system and the best boating accessory I have ever added to a boat (not counting my Lowrances). I will be testing and writing about their Tow charging system soon, which quickly charges your batteries from your tow vehicle.
Between the charge-on-the-run capability, and the charge-on-the-tow system, you can keep your batteries charged without parking lot electricity.

Glad you all are enjoying the Stealth 1. Mike is the local retailer in your area up north and I am the rep in the south.

Steath 1 is a great system that not only charges your batteries while you run the big motor, but can also charge them while you are driving!

If you already have an AC charger, the DC unit can be easily added and give you all of the great charging features.

Additionally, this product had a short article in the March issue of BASS Times for those who still subscribe.

Another key feature is the gauge. By having the gauge set up to monitor you trolling motor batteries, you always know where you are at and the guessing game is gone. When you start your big motor, you will see the gauge climb showing that the batteries are taking a charge. While you are fishing or at the end of the day, you just look at the gauge and you know if you need to plug in.

If you have any technical questions on how it works, let me know.

I have a couple questions....
- Whats it cost?
- How much room is needed for installation
- Does it have to be professionally installed
- If so what is the time frame we are lookin at
- What type of amp's does it put out to the batteries
- Will it shorten the life or kill a batteries
- Is it compatible with a 36 volt system

Thank you and sorry if duplicated any questions/answers. Great idea!

The cost ranges from about $200 for the AC unit only to about $700 for the works...AC/DC/Gauge/Tow Package. It depends on which products you desire.

The amount of room for installation is very little. The AC/DC units stack on top of each other and are about 1/2 the size (and weight) of a Dual Pro 3 bank charger (standard on the Ranger and Champion ...at the moment). The AC unit puts out 20 amps. If you already have an AC unit, the DC is very small..about 10"X6"X2". Installation can be done by you or a dealer in about 45 minutes or less. If you install the gauge, a little more is involved.

As for the charge, that is the KEY to this product...it depends on what is required by the batteries. It has the ability to draw up to 40 amps if necessary, but usually not. The DC unit has the smarts to detect current voltage and then provide the current/voltage necessary for a good charge. This charger is by far the best charger to "protect" your batteries. It will not overcharge and it will not charge too high or cook your batteries. Unlike most AC units where the charge cycle is full bore and then settles after some time...maybe hours, the Stealth is far smarter and will actually extend the life of your batteries.

The system is compatible with 24 or 36 volt systems. I personally run it on a 36 volt system and previously had it on a 24 volt system...same unit.

Check out the website at www.stealth1charging.com. If you have further questions, feel free to call me at 818-448-3366. I can describe the system in full detail...it may just take a little while.

Matthew,

I switched from the other brand to the Stealth a long time ago because I had problems with the heavy transformer type chargers holding up in rough water conditions. I kept having battery problems, and thought my batteries were defective. Turned out to be the charger developing a problem with shorting, probably from excessive impact from rough water on the Columbia. Although the company replaced their charger, I was out four batteries, and the time to replace the charger wiring.

Then it all happened again with the new charger. Same problem, caused by that heavy charger pounding in rough water. The guys that fish still water have no problem with the transformer style...but they weren't holding up in rough water.

That's when I started searching for a better solution. The Stealth1 charger has been my answer, and it has performed so well I told lots of people about them...and that landed me a prostaff position with them.

The AC/DC charger combo is small enough and light enough that it can be mounted anywhere you can fit a small box. The DC unit alone is like mounting a cigar box. The connections are all quality materials and rigid and sealed. It is really easy to install if you are good at following instructions, and the company will help even if you are not. By removing my transformer style charger from my sump, and adding the Stealth1, I was able to mount my spare prop in the space gained by removing the 4 bank transformer unit (I run a Minnkota 101 Max 36v system).

Installing the optional gauge can be a little more complicated, but is still easy on most boats.

I also know Mike well and have been running that system that he installed for about 6 months now on the West Marine wrapped Ranger Z20. So far so good and now our company is seriously considering bringing these systems into our stores in Northern California. We also refer all of our electronics customers from Sacramento to Fresno to Mike for expert installation at a great price. This system really does do what it claims and represents the future of on-board charging. Transformer type chargers are definitely a thing of the past.
