Steel, Brass or Tungsten....

Post by pigskin »

Hi guys, looking for a little info.
I have always used those lead bullet worm weights and am finding that more and more of them have the holes plugged.
I want to try something different.
What would you suggest?
What are the advantages from one another?
And where are the best places to buy these weights if you suggest Tungsten because Tungsten is so expensive :(

Thank you for your help guys :)

I use these tungsten weights http://www.basstackledepot.com/conquist ... ights.aspx You get more than you do with the tru-tungsten weights for the same price.

I like tungsten weights, but have been using both lead and tungsten. Tungsten is expensive but its smaller than than lead, the feel is better too.

Use your hook to open them up or spend 6 bucks on one tungsten weight.

Lead is soft and can bounce and deflect off rocks a plus I keep a paper clip handy to open the hole on the nose (thru the bottom) and smooth up the pointy end with a round toothpick I use tungston on occaision, its good stuff... lead bullet weights are cheap and work and snag less than egg sinkers in my experience.

The oft asked $1,000,000 question

Lead: Cheap, not durable - great for situation when you're losing baits to the deep.

Steel: don't waste your time or money, brass is just as cheap and a much better weight.

Brass: Moderately priced, relatively large size - good with glass beads or when rigged "away from the bait"

Tungsten: Ex-freakin-spensive, small, great sensitivity, colorfast (some brands) - great for punching/flipping in heavy cover.

You get what you pay for in respect to what application you are using the weight.

I refuse to use tungsten in the rocky lakes, cause it's gone in 5 minutes, but I wouldn't rig some clunky, ugly and giant lead weight in front of my flipping baits on the delta.

Flippin and Pitchin changes the weight choice.....tho 3/8 oz lead still is good sometimes. In the earlier post ..egg sinkers.. I was thinking of a Carolina Rig
