Steve Buechner captures a win at El Capitan with ABA
“I decided to stay close and fish by the ramp, while I was waiting for lines in, fish were busting all around me.” said Buechner, “Once lines in was official, the fish were done working bait and were not willing to bite any lure I presented to them.”
“I gave up on the ramp area and made a run to another area of the lake.” spoken Buechner, “I started to work down the bank and ran about 600 yards without a bite, but soon I was able to catch a few fish on the drop shot rig and Senko.”

“I was working tight to the sticks working a Senko and ended up catching a bunch of 16 to 17” bass.” declared Buechner, “I was consistently catching fish working down the bank along the sticks.”
“The wind started to blow harder after 10 AM and I had to fight the wind consistently. It was the most difficult tournament that I had ever fished.” announced Buechner, “I don’t have a trolling motor on my kayak, so I was always correcting my kayak’s angle, it was the most physical and draining tournament I had ever fished.”
“I kept the Senko in my hand the rest of the day and ended up having all 17” fish or better.” reported Buechner, “Even with the wind causing my Senko to go anywhere but where I intended to cast, I was able to cull up all day long.”

“I knew I needed a kicker fish to take the win and had about 30 minutes left of the day. I was ready to move across the lake and just before I made the run, I caught the 19” fish.” divulged Buechner, “That fish made the difference and gave me the win.”
“I did catch a few fish drop shotting, but all of my limit was on the Senko.” described Buechner, “I used both a Texas rig and a wacky rig, but the Texas rig accounted for the majority of my limit.”

“It was nice to finally catch a kicker fish with just minutes left of the fishing day.” communicated Buechner, “It was nice to take the win.”
Buechner thanked Hobie, Fast Lane Kayaks, Heck Electric and Solar and my wife most of all. A big shout out to ABA for hosting such great events.
Johathan Demonet was the runner up for the event with a total of 87.75”. Demonet started off his day throwing big baits; however, he was not able to entice any fish to bite. He found himself without any fish around 11 AM and knew it was time to change up and adjust his technique to fill his limit. Once Demonet changed up his technique, he was able to post a second-place bag.
“I started off throwing a deep diving crank bait and a jig and found myself without a fish at 11 AM.” pronounced Demonet, “I pulled out a Neko rig and basically caught fish the rest of the day.”

“The key structure was rock and brush.” expressed Demonet, “I was shanking it, but the bites were all when I was letting it sit still, I never felt the fish tap the bait, it was just heavy.”
“I caught between 15 to 20 fish between 11 AM and lines out at 3:30 PM.” declared Demonet, “I culled probably 5 times all day long.
“I fished main lake all day long.”
Demonet thanked his wife and daughter for all their support and Anglers Marine for their support. Also, ABA for hosting great events.
Brad Blokzyl finished in third place with 87.75”. Blokzyl caught tons of fish throughout the day, but his last-minute heroics pushed him into third place.
“I made a long run to the back of one of the arms.” proclaimed Blokzyl, “The fish were busting around me but wouldn’t take any of my presentation.”
“I changed up to a rip bait and caught a huge crappie, I left that area and headed back towards the main lake.” mentioned Blokzyl, “Once I made it to my next location, my first cast I lost a nice fish on a Neko rigged Robo Margarita worm.”

Blokzyl thanked his wife for never saying no, she always supports me with my fishing even when I don’t want to go fishing, she still pushes me to go fishing.
