Yesterday evening was coming to a close without many fish for my Windy Wednesday Nighter on the delta, but at least there were some beautiful views!
Unfortunately, on the way back to the ramp I had boat trouble and lost my main engine. My cellphone had 5% battery left and my trolling motor died before reaching the nearest marina. I meant to bring my phone charger with me today as well. I realized it while idling out and figured the 50% charge would be fine. Listening to a couple podcasts drained it down quickly. Luckily my dad was able to get in contact with a random good samaritan named Dave who was willing to come tow me. He was out of gas though so thanks to the owner at King Island Marina for turning on the pumps and letting us fill his tank. I did have my vhf radio and the coast guard does monitor channel 16 I found out. I thought I was gonna spend the night out there, which would have been fine. My only concern was the thunderstorm in the distance. Luckily it just provided a good show while I waited for a tow.
Only saw one other boat the whole time but they were too far away to realize my predicament. I'll be adding some flares, a spotlight, and a phone charger for the future! Just in case.
Big thanks to my dad and Dave for getting me!
PS. Not sure why the attachments are sideways.
