Is the Delta fishing tough or is it just me?

Post by Louie »

I sure have struggled on the Delta this year. I went out today and didn't get a single fish. Is anyone else having the same trouble? I will try it agian next weekend.

I have been struggling for the last year and a half. I don't fish it on a daily basis, but the areas and patterns that have worked in the past have changed. The Delta does what it wants to do, whether you fully understand it or not. It seems that every hour the bite changes, not to mention day-to-day. The fish haven't been able to stabilize due to inclement weather patterns we've had lately. I'm sure Cooch will attest to this and chime in shortly.

The Delta is like the woman that knows she is good and does what she wants, when she wants and the guys do as she says. But when she gives it up, it is like no other.

Last weekend I got my first 5 fish limit of the year and even culled a few. I wanted to come on here and say I was back in the saddle again but I dare not because she would put me in my place again.

The Delta is a bitch that you love!

Constant soaring barometer changes and cold fronts have kept the majority of the fish off the beds, spawning deeper and buried in the grass. Fish can be caught but you are gonna have to change yer game plan and start fishing places yer not used to fishing and slow WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY down!

The first couple of days of a storm front have been exceptional, and the river will kick out some great bass, then the trailing stormy days, and days to follow, the bite falls way off and the fish are vacating the shallows, or just sit there and could care less about our offerings. I've found that monster long casts have been the ticket for me the past 4 weeks. And then I gotta fish like it's January and slow way down, nearly dead sticking my baits. Focus on southern and eastern facing banks, in other words, banks on the left or west side and north side, tend to have some concentrations of fish all the time. Catch one, move on if ya cain't git bit in the next 15 minutes. If'n ya can see em cruising around, don't waist yer time. If ya see em hunkered, back WAY off and make that long cast to their areas.

One thing for sure is THERE ARE ALWAYS ACTIVE FISH somewhere on the Delta. You either have to slow way down and pick apart a area or keep moving until you find active fish

It's not just you..I know I have many day's where I feel like all that I've learned has seemed to gone out the window...but many day's I don't do well, talking to others it's not much different. I agree that there are always fish to be caught, but sometimes finding them on 1000 miles of waterway seems next to impossible

Well at least I am not alone. Like you guys I will keep searching. I think I will forget about all of my go to spots and fish new water for a while to try to learn something. I can't do any worse than I have been doing. Thanks again.

You only got 20 pounds Sunday? Dood, the bite was sick that day every spot we hit! One of the few days this year where most everyone I talked to had over 24 pounds, guys were yankin and yellin' and one of my clients was pushin forty! Big fat slugs cruisin everywhere, on Monday & Tuesday, all them spots were void of fish!

Make no mistake, the bite IS tough and changing day by day right now. Just look at all the tournament weights for this spring, no bags over 30, no dominant winners and very few bags over 20 on T-day are comming to the scales. By all means, don't take my word for it, go ask Barrack the next time ya see him. You'll git the same answer from two guys who fish here every day, rain or shine.

Before ya put that jump suit and vest on Fish_food mentions, you better git out when it's cold, wet and windy, then come here and tell us about yer 20 pounds! HAR! HAR! HAR!
