The resort formerly known as Spanish Flat???

Post by nipples »

Forgive me if this was already discussed, I did a search and didn't see it...

I was recently browsing the web and came across some info that a company out of Arizona bought 6 of the Berryessa resorts and are in the process of reopening most of them this year. The company is called "The Pensus Group" (no that is not a typo)... Spanish Flat will now be known as Foothill Pines, Putah Creek will be Chaparral Cove, Rancho Montichello will be Manzanita Canyon, Steele Park will be Lupine Shores, Berryessa Marina will be Blue Oaks, and Markley Cove will be Mahogany Bay. (some places are already partially open)

http://lakeberryessashores.com/ has all the info I have found so far... If you choose the resorts heading (http://lakeberryessashores.com/resorts/) you can see each place (at the bottom)

Looks like a lot of places with have camping, some will have cabins/cottages, boat slips, stores, showers, etc... (they need a few boat up restaurant/bars like Clearlake and Delta, but that is beside the point)

Does anyone have more info on what is going on out there? It looks like Berryessa is about to get very busy (and possibly become overly infested with lake lice). I've also heard some bad things about Pensus Group and how they like to jack up prices and fees and buy out the competition. But in all fairness, I don't know how reliable that info is so that could just be fear and loathing in las vegas.

So... Anyone got the goods on what's going on at the Berry?
Do it like no one is watching...

I have gotten wind a few years back, they did pretty much take over, and I was told they planned to develope most of the lake   , houses, cabins, mega pads much like Clear Lake.....Hard to imagine, probably get a few mixed opinions, they definetly have been hurtin really bad up there with the economy....... I like it just the way it is IMHO....

Sounds like a monopoly to me. I thought the idea of removing the semi permanent campers around the lake was to improve lake access to the public. Oh yeah, here I go getting suspicious of the government helping us out again.

Most of the information you have sounds correct with the exception of Markley Cove. Markley Cove and Pleasure Cove Marinas are at this point not part of the Pensus group and are the closest marinas to the dam. They removed all the trailer homes and are in the process of clearing the older resort areas and constructing new buildings and improving the dock and launching areas at this point. I would imagine that prices will go up for camping and launching since the lake has very little activity during the winter time and most businesses that try to make a go of it go out of business. I do not fish during the summer up there since it has a tremedous amount of boat traffic. I am actually going up there tomorrow so if there is anything worth adding I will probably write about it on Monday in this forum.

The above is all correct. I called the manager of the area a few months back and hung up the phone with a feeling that I will be in a rest home before most of the plans and permits are ever even finalized! RR
