Thinking about switching my boat insurance
I'd like to hear some of your suggestions for insurers (the boat is old and paid for). I'm with plain old State Farm now, but would like to find out about companies that do bass boat insurance right. Anyone go with Boat U.S. Angler?

Jazz,
I am a Farmers Agent here in Napa, and Foremost is a company that Farmers owns and operates which covers all Boats and Recreational toys. We have very competitive rates on Bass Boats and Foremost has a great reputation.

You might want to stay away ftom Foremost....I had foremost for years never a claim, then one day it happened a claim was filed...big joke i changed insurance and dropped them like a rock. There are plenty of companys around might want to check out Stan Vanderburg Ace insurance.
Re: Thinking about switching my boat insurance
If you do a search on this site you will see that this discussion comes up about once every 6 months and there are a few constant companies that get the nod.
I use http://www.800bassboat.com/ 1800 Bass Boats for my insurance Ken and Stan Vandenburg are tournament anglers that started insuring bass boats way back in the day. I have had a claim on my boat and have sought thier council several times and everything was quick and smooth, what else can you ask for? I am not sponsored or connected to them in anyway but i do recommend as you are getting your multiple quotes to call Ken or Stan and talk to them ask them what it is to look out for.

Re: Thinking about switching my boat insurance
Give Nick Langer, of Langer Insurance, a call.
He fishes, and uses the same insuranc company, Foremost, he recommended to me.
I switched when Gayla King was let go from Sawyer Cook, and when my old boat was totalled on the freeway by a hit and run drive, Foremost made the replacement fast and painless.

It's worth a phone call.

Re: Thinking about switching my boat insurance
I've been with Ken & Stan at 1800BASSBOAT for almost 20 years now after switching from Progressive which turned sour aft 8 years and my first claim. With Ken & Stan, my carrier has been ACE and the service has been awesome. Over that span with ACE, I had a claim in 1999 for a lower unit, it was dealt with very quickly and I did not receive an increase in premium. Over the years, there have been times when my payments were late and caused a lapse. In most cases, you git dropped and it's a costly nightmare ta git re-instated. With ACE, Ken & Stan have a great relationship with them and a clear understanding that many of us are on the road a lot and sometimes for one reason or another miss payments. It's of great comfort and value to me, to know I'm not gonna have issues with my coverage in the event I err and miss a payment deadline.
Also just this April, I unfortunately had to rely on my coverage a 2nd time due to a lower unit collision. After dropping my boat off, I actually got a call from Stan about the claim, before I had a chance to call them. Next day I git a call from the ACE adjuster asking for photos of the damage, 4 days later, I have a check in hand. We then discovered about 2 weeks later, I had additional damage due to the impact from the accident and a suplimental claim was filed. That day I git a call asking for photos, and 4 days later I have the full suplimental check in hand. Hassle free, amazing service that I know I can rely on and my costs are still cheaper than if I was to change carriers, this including my normal coverage, the Guide Rider and Surety bonding.
The Vandeburgs and their partner ACE, are solid as ROCKS!

Re: Thinking about switching my boat insurance
I use to have insurance with them on all my boats. This time I had a problem with what they wanted to say the boat was worth. They asked what I paid for it. I told them what did that matter. If I paid 1.00 for it would it be worth 1.00? I told them to look up the BB on it. They then said there is no BB on boats right now. After that I ended up calling fish on and had no problem at all! They asked me what I wanted to insure it for. I told them and they gave me a price and I paid it! Nice and easy!Cooch wrote:I've been with Ken & Stan at 1800BASSBOAT for almost 20 years now after switching from Progressive which turned sour aft 8 years and my first claim. Re: Thinking about switching my boat insurance
You need to price shop a little and figure out what insurance is for you. Are you looking for full coverage so if something happens you just make a call and get paid? If so, go with agreed hull value as you know what you will get if boat is a total loss. A lot of it depends on what you are willing to take and the cost vs. benefit. Get prices first and if there is not a huge difference, go areed value.
Make sure you read and understand the policy and the fine print!
Good luck!

1 claim and it was handled in day! The rates are more than fair and its BASS BOAT insurance for BASS BOAT owners - not regular insurance that OH Yeah we can cover bass boats too type of stuff.
They cover the product in the boat (Which in some cases can be worth more than the boat).
The understand the replacement cost is more than what the boat is worth. Don't quote me - ask Stan or Ken - but, I am pretty sure the value they insure it for doesn't decrease for 10 years!
Call them - PERIOD! I pay about $400 a year and knowing I have Stan and Ken on my side - I am happy to send them the check!
