Top 5 ShareLunker-producing lakes in 2018

The Toyota ShareLunker Program successfully ended its first year-long season with 486 entries from 89 lakes.

The top 5 ShareLunker-producing lakes in 2018 were:

Lake Conroe near Houston https://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/re ... ovdelivery

Lake Fork near Quitman https://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/re ... ovdelivery

Lake Athens in Athens https://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/re ... ovdelivery

O.H. Ivie Lake near San Angelo https://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/re ... ovdelivery

Sam Rayburn Reservoir near Jasper https://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/re ... ovdelivery

To participate in the ShareLunker program, enter your bass 8 lbs. and larger. Along with receiving recognition, you'll be eligible for one of two $5,000 shopping sprees donated by Bass Pro Shops. These winners are drawn by random – one from Legacy Anglers, who donate a bass, and one from everyone who entered a bass that year. That's Gilbert Miller in the photo, one of last year's happy winners.

Check out this 13.79lb giant ShareLunker caught by Gary Klein Pro Angler! TPWD staff led a hook-and-line effort to collect largemouth bass 13lbs+ from our research contract lake to be incorporated in our ShareLunker selective-breeding program. These fish are highly valued for our captive breeding program and traditional sampling methods are largely ineffective in capturing fish over 13 pounds. We recruited a handful of local professional anglers to give us the best chance to collect a fish of this size. Professional angler, Gary Klein, was successful in catching this 13.79lb bass, which allowed TPWD staff to enter the fish into the ShareLunker Legacy Class captive spawning program. Thank you, Gary for your help in collecting this valuable fish! Gary’s contributions to ShareLunker will continue to make bass fishing bigger and better in Texas’ public waters!

Note: Due to being a private water entry, the offspring will either be incorporated into our hatchery broodstock or stocked into public waters that donate a Legacy Class fish, and the angler is not eligible for the prize packages or drawings. In this case, after spawning, the ShareLunker will be held on display at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center for an up close experience. — feeling excited.
