Just courious about opinions for these lakes. Why you would select them would be nice also.

#1 Superspook... Because they catch'em anywhere
#2 1/4oz Rapala fatrap shad color...match the hatch
#3 L.C. Staycee...you can hang'em in their faces
#4 L.C. LV500...see #1
#5 L.C. Pointer in chart/shad...seems to attract better fish
#6 DD20...some of these fish never seen a crankbait!
That's my story 'an I'm stickin to it!

Re: Top six crank baits for Shasta or Oroville
Hey Bill, I fish Shasta a ton....only hit Oroville a few times a year, so my responses are more Shasta related, though works on Oroville too:
#1 Superspook... but insure you put a BIG feather trailer hook on...when the fish are on the spook, you get the big ones.
#2 L.C. Staycee in Ghost Minnow....practically works year round. I have two in the boat just in case I loose one, and both have caught so many fish they have teeth marks deep into the plastic around each hook. I also like the clown color for mud lines when it seems they are missing the bait.
#3 Fat Free Shad...the one that runs 10 to 12 feet. Various colors, but chartreuse and baby bluegill are a must.
Now...you asked for top crank baits...them are what I use...but...I just can't not mention a 1/2 oz BROWN football jig with a 176 5" yamamoto spider grub....year round....

Hey Guys, since when did............
Heddon and Excaliber start putting billed lips on their Spooks? HAR! HAR! HAR! And I'll stray away from the Jerkbaits, that's a whole nother poll in my mind!
1 Norman D14 Bone w/ pearl sparkle - I stumbled onto this Crankbait at Oroville 2 years ago after a trip from ClearLake. It was tied on, I was in the wood in the West Branch and it put constant 2-3lb spots in the boat all day. When they are on that wood and not hitting anything else, they will plain eat up this bait!
2. 400 Series Poe Plug - White - This plug just works every where and has been a local favorite of Shasta Fishermen for eons! Great for probing the open water depths and structure of these two ponds.
3. Rattle Trap - Gold Tennessee Shad. Where in this state, DOESN'T this lipless catch fish?
4. Bagley's DBIII - Chartruese, dark back Orange bellie. My number #1, big bass winter crankbait of ALL time! I never leave home in the winter without these baits, and you can be sure I'll be down on the damn tossing this thing from noon till 3:00pm searching out the biggest bass in the lake!
5. 7A Bomber Red Craw. Never met a bass that wouldn't eat this bait. If the lake has got craws, this staple must be rearin' ta go. Shasta and Oroville are no exception, especially in the spring!
6. The final spot must go to the Speed Trap in Brown/orange craw, 1/4 oz. I've not had the success with it at Shasta, prolly cause I've not used it when my other cranks are working so well before I git to this one. But maing, them Oroville spots love this crank when they is shallow.

Maybe not exactly all crankbaits, but hardbaits.
Spook, speed trap- craw and bluegill color, L.C. pointer and staycee, shad rap-shad pattern and rattletrap-shad pattern or with a chartruese tint. Seem to work for me. Bill K
