Topwater/ Frog Rod?

Post by drdetroit3 »

I am looking to get a Topwater/Buzzbait/Frog rod, not looking to break the bank. Looking to spend around $150.
Any suggestions.

Thanks, Mike

Check out the powell 735 or 734. The 735 is a awesome frog rod, and can be used in open water or heavy cover. The 734 is to light for the frog, but can be used for alot of other topwater apps. and is a great all-around rod.

The Dobyns 735 in the Savvy Series is a great frog rod and is perfectly in your price range !

In either micro guides or not

I have been playing with the Abu Garcia Veritas VRC73-6 for throwing buzzbaits and frogs for a year now... I have to say that it has worked out REALLY well... and they are only $99.95...
If you can get past the white rod, which some folks just can't seem to get past..then I think you will really like it... it flat out does the job! It's got a really nice combination of open water walking the frog, tops of mats and casting...

Check it out at:

Regardless of your decision... Good Luck ~

CRC77MHA 7'7" Medium Heavy Fast 12-20' 20-50 1/4-1oz EVA Fuji Alconite 10.5" Split Grip

Hard to beat Shimano Cruical 169/retail no questions asked lifetime over the counter warrant. You break it, take it to any Shimano dealer, pay 15/shipping & walk out with your new rod.

Good luck

Powell 764c Endurance. Its just a very versitile rod. I use it for frogs, buzzbaits, topwater, paddletails just to name a few. The balance along with a great blend of power and tip make it great for what your loking for. I currently have 4 of them and i might need more. If you want to try one out, give me a call.

The frog experts have spoken, so I won't add another brand. But all frogs are not created equal. The rod you choose may not deliver the action you want, even using the same 60 or 65-pound braid, so I would also ask the guys what they throw with the rods they are touting.
