Tournament Earnings & Taxes?

Post by Steve Ericksen »

Tax season is still a little ways out, but I'm trying to get my write-offs done early this year and was wondering how people go about doing this.

I won a little money from FLW this year, and I know I have to claim my earnings, but since this is technically income....am I able to write off any expenses?

For example, say I won $4,000 total....would I be able to write off travel, tackle, and accommodation expenses up to that amount?

I know an accountant would best answer this question, but I know a lot of nutcases go through this each year as there always seems to be a few threads about this topic come April.

Steve,

Talk to Rich Thiel (send him a PM or give him a call). One of his guiding clients is an accountant and has helped him with his write offs. I forget the guys name but I know he's fishing the FLW Series on the coangler side.

Ben Hetrick in Modesto is also good. He does a Ish Monroe and Mike Icanellia (sorry for the spelling) taxes. He does mine and is purty good at getting me back money. He is also a fellow angler and is the shiz-nit.

Thanks Guys, will do.

Vince...how have you been? Heard you moved to Arizona, did you bring your boat? Where are you fishing down there?

Yeah I moved to Scottsdale and it took about a month or so to get settled down here. Brought the boat but it's been anywhere from 102-116 everyday since I've been here so I'm having a bit of cabin fever. I want to go night fishing but I don't have my bearings on any of these lakes out here (Pleasant, Suguaro, Bartlett, Alamo). I'm still lurking around the board here (mostly Southwest and AZBasszone.com) but you can't imaging how much I'm missing the delta right now.

I'm going to venture out this weekend to Suguaro just to get a little practice in before the Columbia River event. The heat should start breaking here in about a month then it's great fishing all year round until end of May/June. If you find yourself in the PHX area drop me a line. I'll take you out and hit the town as well (especially "The Library" near ASU).
