transporting trolling motor

Post by drilltrash »

odd ball question but im working down in san diego right now. i just bought a new trolling motor that was on sale and figured i would be driving back home to yuba city. i found out that i will probably end up flying home now and was wondering if any of you have ever checked in a trolling motor (in box) at the luggage check in? kinda debating weather to ship it via UPS or just check it in at the airport.

It's a real problem shipping a trolling motor. It's heavy, it's big ... both means $$$ ... I shipped once upon a time, you'll have to find a box that would fit. Then find a carrier, I forgot who I used but UPS would not take it because it was oversize. Maybe it was DHL. This was probably 7-8 years ago, I think it cost me $70. I doubt you want to ship it with the airlines (too many luggage damaging gorillas working there).

Depends on who you are going to fly with. Baggage fees are outrageous. If you fly south west you might be OK since they have the second bag free thing going on. You would have to pack it good!! I would still check with the airline to make sure they will let you load it.

I shipped my Motor Guide Digital 82 to Trolling Motor Dr. last December by UPS and it cost me $27. I live about 80 miles away.

UPS does ship them!!!! thats the way ive always shipped mine, just a few months ago in fact. If you dont have the box it came in go to a boat dealer, they have them all the time.
