Truck?
What would you consider the best all around truck for pulling a full sized bass rig? Take into consideration:
-New Price
-Reliability
-Maintenance/Warranty
-Resale Value
-Gas Mileage
etc...

I have a 2001 Ford F-250 4X4 PowerStroke Diesel. I have a 20ft. Bass Boat with a dual axle trailer. My truck has no problems pulling it anywhere. Diesels have more power to tow things then gas rigs.

I have a 1999 Ford F350 Power Stroke. I pull a 21ft bass boat with NO problem. I can pull the Grapevine (I-5) at 70 mph oops I mean 55 mph NO problem. I can go about 700 miles on 40 gal tank. I chipped it with a 4" exhaust. But hey I like to make it to the lake!!It is nice not to have to worry about your tow rig. I know Ford stands for Fix-Or-Repair-Daily or Find-On-Road-Dead. But not mine!!!! Next one will be a Ford or maybe Chevy when the time comes.

Re: Truck?
I had a 2004 F350 Diesel and the truck was awesome. The mileage sucked though, about 13. I traded it in a bought a Tundra. The new Tundra's are awesome, they get about 19-20 MPG while not towing.
Re: Truck?
Get a diesel. No gasser will pull as well and the mileage is good considering that the 3/4 ton trucks weigh in at around 7000#. I have an '04 F-250 with 110000 miles and get 15 highway and 13 towing but I drive it like I stole it. Best thing is I have it paid off and plan on driving it to 300000 miles and that will be a long time with zero truck payments. Diesel engines last. Good luck.
Re: Truck?
Chevy Suburban. Period. End of story. The best of the best.
Re: Truck?
I have a '04 F350 Powerstroke Crewcab dually. Just turned 100k on the odometer last week. Thing is a towing machine. In fact, I purchased it to tow my auto trailers when I was racing cars (26' Classic tag & 38' TPD goose). Have towed Grapevine & Baker Grade with zero issues. When completely loaded, I was well over 10k in trailer weight.
I average about 17mpg for regular driving which includes towing the boat.
The truck is completely OVERKILL for towing my 520DVX! With the way fuel prices are now (diesel costing more than gas), it takes more than 80k miles to break even on the extra cost of the diesel motor option. In '04, it was about $4k. This doesn't count the fact that I need 15 quarts of oil every time I change it. In other words, there is increased cost of maintenance with a diesel. The flip side is that the diesel motor should last longer than a gasser - if both are actually used hard.
From a rational standpoint, a gasser is the way to go.
That being said, I would only sell my diesel truck to buy a regular single rear wheel diesel.
I don't have any ginormous trailers anymore.

I love my Tahoe.
I switched from a truck to a van and then got a Tahoe with a towing package. I will never go back. Plenty of power, I tow a 21' Stratos. The comfort is unmatched by any truck. I get around 18-19 mpg, not towing and right at 15 mpg when towing, and I'm usually pushing 65 to 70 mph. I don't force it on the hills cause that's real hard on the tranies.

The Toyota Tundra is the only truck that pays you to fish. If you are fishing the FLW events out here as a boater or have any thought of doing so then you need to look at the Tundra. 381 hp has more power than the Dodge Hemi. Better brakes, six speed transmission makes this truck awesome. My Tundra has leather, gps, back up camera, sun roof and even heated seats for those cold mornings. Way too nice for a fishing truck but I am not complaining.
Check out the Toyota Bonus Bucks Program at www.toyotafishing.com and if you are the highest finishing angler towing with your Tundra you win $1500 second highest finisher wins $1000 in the Stren Series Events. FLW series pays $2000 to the highest finsher and $1000 to the second highest.
You can also get more information at www.toyotafishing.com
For a great deal on a truck you can contact me and I will help you putting you in direct contact with Jeff Thompson the owner of Thompson's Toyota in Placerville and he will take great care of you and you will deal with the owner of the dealership so there is no games. If you are interested in a Toyota drop me a pm and I will set you up. The Tundra is made here in the U.S. in San Antonio, Texas.

Re: Truck?
Seriously,
Any of the new full size trucks will pull any bass boat out there. I have a Chevy, like it and have never had any problems, Have friends with Ford, and Dodges, and Toyota's heck even know a guy who pulls with a Nissan... They are all dependable and have plenty of power with a gas or diesel..
Resale Diesel seems to hold it's value better, as does Toyota's..But if your buying to keep it... who cares ...
Find one YOU like and negotiate.. you'll still need to wheel and deal to get a good price

Diesel all the way if you can. They pull hill's like you wont believe and you can run your AC during the heat with no problem and you will get 15-18 mpg . The best thing about my Ford is it's a heavy truck and the most important time I have ever needed it was to STOP. Once you get one Dodge Ford or Chevy you wont go back to a small truck.

GMC Sierra or Chevrolet Silverado extended cab with a 5.3 Gas engine is the best value. They are bullet proof.

How can you go wrong? Look at all the options the truck has for the money! 100k warranty to boot!

Outside of that I would stick with the Cummings engine with a 6-speed manual tranny for the best milelage. ('05 Dodge 4x4 4 door Crew-cab Long Bed Lariat Package with a shell)
When my 100k Warrenty is up (43k more miles to go) I will look into getting an EDGE box or even possibly the Six-Gunner for it.
But I can already get 23.4 mpg freeway @ 55 mph and 22.7 mpg at 65 mpg, 18.6 mpg towing my boat staying out of the turbo to ClearLake and back on a single tank with misc runs for 534 miles R/T, (ask Cooch -- It was living the Sienfield Show ~ In Living Life to The Fullest !!

...and the wife gets 17.8 mpg for running the boys around town to school and her things already .....
Diesel has it +'s .... But it ain't for everyone. Myself when my other truck finally dies ('94 Ford F-150 x-Cal LB )~ I will be looking into the VW Passat TDI Wagon in Diesel.... to then finally reclaim "My Truck" from the wife 100%.

You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

Dodge cummins 2000
leather and loaded
350 HP
750 lbs of torque
23+ mpg
14.5 mpg towing 20' skeeter with a loaded cabover camper. Will pull any grade at 60+ mph with ease
show me a gasser that can do that that gets over 6 mpg.
It has 206,000 miles, and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it across the country right now with the camper and pulling the boat

theres a fine line between fishin and standin on a boat like an idiot
Re: Truck?
i'd go with a ford or a chevy. given the current state of our economy, i wouldn't even think about a toileta or a nissan. i own a small business that depends on our trucks, and ford has never let me down in 18yrs. be american, buy american.
