This is not intended to be a negative comment! Thanks for the realistic payout based on what you think you can draw. One thing I have always disliked about the US Open and have not fished it because of it, the extremely steep drop in the payouts. 4th in last years open got $7500.
Maybe if the field is larger than 100 boats the payout could be adjusted in the 5-10th places a little higher than in 1-5th. Just an opinion that I know everyone doesnt share but if you finish in the top 10percent of the field more than double your true expense to fish the tournament would be nice. (1500 entry, gas, lodging etc...)
Just a thought. If the date works for me, I am in.

Re: USAC Announces Bass West Open
I too always have thought if a org could find a way to pay deeper into the field where guys could maybe cover some of their expenses would be a good thing and I think it would get some attention. I really don't think IMO it needs to be top 3 wins all the cash ..Smitty wrote:This is not intended to be a negative comment! Thanks for the realistic payout based on what you think you can draw. I know some guys or more so their wifes would like it if they dropped some bones on the kitchen table after a days fishin..
I believe guys would get more support on the home front and maybe be incouraged to fish a few more tournaments too

Re: USAC Announces Bass West Open
I like the idea but I don't think they payout matches the steep entry.
I can pay $500 more ($2000 total) and fish an FLW event. After the Delta there were 117 boats, they paid 39 spots. 39th place paid $4834.
They paid a 1 in 3 payback.
This mega event is a 1 in 5 and unless you take a top 10 you will not even break even. I know these numbers are based on 100 boats as that is a realistic number for the guys that will pony up $1500 or more to fish an event. But I think the pay out numbers are off by a lot.
Even if you get a lower end check, if you had any traveling, gas, hotel and food expenses you lost money.
As for the 3 1/2 days, I am not a fan of that either. I know you guys want a summer time event. But I think you would get more guys if they were fishing full tournament days, not during the hours and adding an evening day.
Just my thoughts.

Kevin, this is a cash event. They don't have the sponsors to boost the pay-out this first year. This is to an annual event and it will fizzle if it's not made better. They know this. They need a decent showing from us to get sponsors to commit in the future. Most of us feel we are investing in this event for the future and the pay back is really pretty good.
Now send in your entry fee. You make your living in the industry now, you CHEAP PRICK

Re: USAC Announces Bass West Open
I'm happy to see it is a shared weight fomat. I really don't want to make anyone mad but as a Co-Angler I'm NOT paying for a guided fishing trip. I look at it as a team event with a different partner each day. I have fished alot of draw tournaments both formats and I can tell you this from experience I have learned more and had a better time fishing shared weight formats. And I know this is just not my oppion. This will be my first AC event Looking forward to it and hope to see it every year. Like gary said we have been begging for the US Open to be here now is our chance let make this a hit so we can see this event for many more years!

"This is to an annual event and it will fizzle if it's not made better. They know this. They need a decent showing from us to get sponsors to commit in the future." The logic seems a little twisted to me. Most businesses spend more than they take in for the first few years. Like a Grand Opening of a store, they spend much more than they make. With time and customer commitment they become profitable. They want to WOW the potential customer by showing them what they have to offer and why that potential customer should spend their hard earned dollar here instead of over there. The initial event should be SPECTACULAR. It needs sponsor commitment first to draw the angler commitment. Look at the Irwin Jacobs and what he has done. Spent way more $$ than he took in at the beginning.

I agree with you Rougebass. I might not of worded my post well, but you are a team for the day. The guide comment was just to point out that as a "co" there are other "benefits" to the event. There are a few "professinal co anglers" but many more co's are there for a good time, to compete, and to try and learn a little. I certainly do not guide my partners. I do "ask" them to throw certain baits. Some will do it and others ignore me. I only ask if I think they are not doing something productive or I want to "use" them to look for another bite or pattern. I did say ask, not tell.
Andrew Jackson. The industry is on it's ***. There are far too many organizations. The major sponsors are looking at proven circuits or events only and don't want to work with those really. My comment might not seem right to you, but that's how things are working in the industry today. They want to see numbers and proof.
