Used Boat Pricing

Post by Robert F »

Time to get a new whip, but gonna get rid of the old Champ first. Getting it all detailed and setting an appointment for the annual prostate. How do you guys price these things? I checked NADA, Westernbass classifieds and Boatrader. Seems most are asking over NADA. Are you getting those prices? I have been keeping up with modernizations like new electronics, trolling motor, new trailer tires and the thing is perfect. There doesnt seem to be any adjustment for these things on NADA. Is NADA the pricing source or is there better?

I would call Angler's ask someone to give you a ball park figure on what you would get on a trade in. That will give you something to work from.

97 202 Elite DC, Merc. 200 EFI, Green and White. When I talked to Art he said my price is "realistic". Many of them are listed much higher.

The EFI might kill you in SoCal.

EFI is tough for DV fishermen but I am not looking to get 40K either. Most of the listings seem to be 2 to 4k over NADA. Anybody sell one?

Can somebody tell me why i should steer clear of EFI in So Cal and why it isn't good for DVL. Doesnt it meet the minimum emmissions standards?

Also what is the asking price for the 97 Champion 202 Elite DC?

Thanks, Big Ed!

EFI'S are no longer even sold in Cal. I mean out of a dealership. They are old tech. The emissions are too high for Skinner or D.V.L.

PM sent. Thanks Ed.

BTW Ray, are Verados and Yamaha HPDI "old tech" as they too are going out of California? Only two public bodies of water have this requirement and my EFI has been far less of a problem than many Optis. If this boat/motor is so out of date can somebody tell me why everybody that has them for sale is asking MORE than NADA? That is what is perplexing to me. Just want to price it right as a replacement is going to cost my kids a couple years of their college education. I do want to sell it not just advertise it for sale. Is that what is going on with these other boats?

Robert, I just sold my 1996 Champ. I originally started slightly over NADA pricing. I got very few calls. When I adjusted the price in accordance with NADA I got several more calls and sold it within a week. With the EFI motor you have, the majority of your market is going to be the northern guys.

Robert, the Verado and HPDI are two completely different animals. The Verado is the most technologically advanced engine of its kind and all Verado models WILL be for sale in California for 08. Watch for a press release in the very near future on this engine. It will open some eyes. As for HPDI in 08, I can't answer that.

Don't get so defensive about your E.F.I.
I used to have one and it was a great motor.

Robert as far as I know the HPDI will no longer be available in Cal. in 08.... Am not sure what Yamaha is going to do now.
As far as selling over NADA Price thing goes..... Not everything is exact on the pricing there. They don't factor certain things our boats have. The price of electronics, the size trolling motor, how long of a warranty is on the motor etc. etc etc.

Is it true that the Verado will not be three star/DV compliant? When the Verado came out it was all I could see being on the back of my boat. Mercury seems to have more work to get that thing rolling. Good they are not giving up. Everybody seems quick to forget the rampant problems with the early Optis that still seem to show up here and there in the current runs. BUT none of this has anything to do with my thread. Thanks Roland for the one answer to my question and thanks Ed and Matt for the interest in the boat. Ray read your first post. Then if you can tell me what day is your trash day I would like to stop by. There must be some nice stuff curbside your house. Not every fisherman can drop 40 to 50K to have the "new tech".

The EFI isn't allowed on DVL, I don't take mine there, so who cares.
It's a 96 and I can keep up with most everyone and it starts every time and runs great. It's one of the best motors they ever made. It sucks a bit more fuel, but again, who cares. It's a solid boat for a price anyone can afford. I'll get a "new" boat when I hit the lottery....

I'm with ya Doug. Where is DVL anyway? Are there any fish there?

Since the 2001 model year there has not been any product allowed into Ca. that in Mercury's case is not Optimax or 4-stroke. So if you are considering a new boat all your choices in Ca. will be only those products. Yamaha for 2008 has decided to push only 4-stroke product, but untill Dec 31st of 2007 all Ca. dealers can bring in 2-star HPDI product. The only Mercury product that cannot be SHIPPED into the boat factory's motor inventories after that date is the regular 175 Optimax and the regular 225 Optimax. Mercury has 3 star Pro-xs Optimax's in 175 and 225 and 250 for 2008. The extra cost of any of these motors is more than made up for in 65-70% better fuel economy than the old EFI. Plus Mercury just announced an additional extended warranty on Optimax for 5 years total for free starting in August. Put your boat around the NADA price and my best guess is you will get about 10% less than that because of the non-compliant engine. Or you can just come on down and we will give you a fair trade-in and not hassle it at all. Rick G.
