Lake Hamilton will soon host anglers from around the world for the 2023 Pan American Bass Fishing Championship Sept. 7-9, and organizers are looking for volunteers to captain boats for the international teams.

A preview for the 2026 Bass Fishing World Championship, the two-day tournament will welcome teams from an estimated 12-14 countries to Hot Springs. Countries that are anticipated to participate include Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, USA and South Africa.

"To get to '26, we wanted to host a Pan American event, which is run out of the Pan American Angling Association out of Mexico," said tournament organizer John Knight. "We're hosting the Pan Am event to introduce ourselves to the venues, the resources, the volunteers, the general audience there as well as the hotel and convention center and all that as we plan to come back in '26 for the world championship."

The boat captains will be assigned the same two anglers for the preview day and both days of the competition, taking the anglers to their requested locations on Lake Hamilton. They will serve from the launch from Andrew H. Hulsey State Fish Hatchery each day at 6:30 a.m. to the end of each day's weigh-in at 4:30 p.m.
