Warranty vs. No Warranty on motor?...You've got...

Post by Shad*Wizard »

some hard earned money to spend on a bassboat...Do you go with a new boat and great warranty on the motor, a used boat with a year or two left on the motor, or a used boat with no warranty on the motor but motor checks out good?...

Used boat, warranty ! You'd get the latest technology-performance , economy etc.not ta mention newer boat , engine and some what worry free-at least for the warranty period.all that and ya didn't pay the huge margin , and ya still may be able ta extend the warranty.

Depends on finances I think, If you have good credit you can finace a very very nice boat with upgraded electronics and other equipment have it all covered by warranty, insurance etc.

But if your a cash in hand guy, buying a used boat can be a great deal...If you bought lets say a 2002 , you could knock easily half the cost, but your going to need to do frequent repairs, upgrades, and maintance. Also you never know how many times the guy ran over and sand bar and replaced his prop, or how he never changed the oil. Engine compression tests, only tell you so much.

With the economy the way it is now, there are some major deals to be had.

I'm tossing the same coin.
New Ranger 188 w/175 Pro XS can probably be had for something in the $33K range. And that will come with a 5 year warranty if you time it right. Brand new boat with full warranty would be sweet. But it also means doing some financing cause I don't have that much cash (and probably never will ) .

On the other hand a late (2005-6) model 520 with a year warranty can be had for something around $25K give or take. And that boat will be much better on Clearlake and the Delta when the weather turns nasty. Plus the storage is way better for tackle and rods. Big plus would be 'no boat payment'.

Tough call.

A new opti 200 is around $13,000 and a rebuilt power head for the opti200 is around $8,000 with a one year warranty. A good warranty is a great thing to have if you have any engine probs (or when you have engine probs). I wish that I had a warranty when my motor blew, now I wish that I had a boat that runs.
