TRI-CITIES, Wash. — At the end of March, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife issued a temporary order to close all recreational fishing and shellfishing in the entire state and fishermen are not happy about it.

For some people biking is a way of life, for others, it's running, and for some folks in the Tri-Cities, it's fishing, but they won't be able to cast and reel in a catch anytime soon. Due to the ban on recreational fishing, a group of upset fishermen is planning a protest for Saturday.

Dan Hanes, the protest organizer, tells Action News it's a God-given right to fish and they want to show fish and wildlife officials along with Governor Inslee, you can fish while social distancing.

“Over the weekend there were houseboats, kayakers, paddleboards you name it, they were all out and able to enjoy the sun but I was out there with my two-year-old and I couldn’t give him a fishing pole because he would have been a criminal,” explained Hanes.
