Well since I need a new prop now I need some help.
I was wondering if anyone knew of a place where I could get a custom blue printed prop. I run a 26 tempest on my 250 xs and I had a big boy in the boat and could barely reach 65 mph. I want something that I can still run 70-75 mph with a full tournament load.
Re: Well since I need a new prop now I need some help.
DUMP THE BIG BOY ? you never stated what rpm you were spinning.do you have a jack plate if so how far.how high is the prop shaft above the bottom of the hull or pad.my self i have a tr21 with a 225 ho i had somewhat of the same problem as you.after some reasearch and phone calls.i lifted the outboard higher and found the sweet spot i run a 27 tempest i looked into a lab finnished prop $500.00.for this service.i gained 5 mph from lifting the outboard no cost.

Re: Well since I need a new prop now I need some help.
I have to buy a new prop anyway since it threw a blade the next day. Not sure what rpm I dont really pay attention I just hold the pedal to the floor, I run the jack plate just below 2 except when blasting off in rough water. I just hate being pasted. I don't pick who I draw so ditching the big boy is not an option.
Re: Well since I need a new prop now I need some help.
You didn't tell us what boat you are running currently, RPM would be a good thing to know along with some other details on your boat setup. Feel free to drop me a PM. The problem here is it is not likely you will find 10 mph with a prop. You are running a 26 Tempest and that is a very good prop for most boats and applications.

look at the bullet 20 xrd with a merc 300 pro max no one will ever pass you.kb is right on you will have a hard time getting 10 mph back with just a prop.wicked28 wrote:I have to buy a new prop anyway since it threw a blade the next day. Give Chris at Phil's in Redding a call he'll get straight

Don't stop till it sounds expensive!!
Re: Well since I need a new prop now I need some help.
hey biatch lay off the big boy comments,,,lol,,,that big boy put fish in your boat and dont think i had anything to do with your boat prop throwing a fin remember it broke on day 2 not day one...long after my fat *** got out that slow as ranger
my day two guy with a 225 etech had big boy and had no problems hittin 65..
maybe just maybe it just happened nobodys fault...i aint chris foolio LMAO!!!

Re: Well since I need a new prop now I need some help.
Bullet, Gambler, Sprint , 300 hp and top end don't mean nothin' in rough water it's all about the fish not the race.. however if you need prop work I vote for Phils in Redding
the best way to catch a big one is don't lose um sharp hooks set drag retie!
Re: Well since I need a new prop now I need some help.
owe your funny stretch, read the post again nonbody said it was your fault, but maybe you had a bigger dinner friday night HAHAHA.

wicked call boatmasters they specialize in custom racing mercs and know props
Re: Well since I need a new prop now I need some help.
Wicked, first of all most 26P Tempest are junk out of the box until worked by a good prop guy. Mark Croxton gets all my business. He has worked more than a half dozen props for me, and they always perform better than expected. If you are running a lead sled Ranger, don't expect to run 70-75 with a full tournament load, aint gonna happen anytime soon. I know Rickey has a Boger prop and all, but the likely hood is that at best you'll see 70ish fully loaded. As far as having a "Big boy" slowing you down... your prop blade more than likely was cracked, which would explain the drop in performance, especially if you threw a blade the next day. My recommendation would be to buy a used 25, 26 or 27P Tempest and send it off to Mark Croxton for a full balance and blueprint. Depending on your WOT, full tournament load RPMs, and time of year, decide on the proper pitch to have it worked to. Remember you can always go up or down 1" in pitch if need be. Add cupping to get more bow lift. If you are not paying attention to what RPM's you turn, and just drop the hammer, you are in need of some education
I hope you also watch your water pressure gauge, as a 250XS will pop if you raise it too much and go lean on the pressure. I would recommend you prop it to run 5800-6000 in the colder months, because you are going to see a drop in performance when it heats up and into the summer months.

Re: Well since I need a new prop now I need some help.
Well first off I don't care if Ricky runs a Boger or not my jig box weighs more than Ricky does.
Ok barely hitting 65 is a little slow but you are not going to run much over 70 with that boat and the 250 pro xs, and no an Etec isn't going to give you 5 to 7 either. The majority of the Z-520's out there are in the high sixties to low seventies with two guys and a tournament load. The low seventies are an exception.
Yes Phil's can help dial the rig in, are you running a hydralic plate or manual plate? You can try a 25 Fury. If you are running a 26 Tempest you would probably need to drop down one size. My buddies that run the Z520 say it is a little weight sensitive and loading it up effects it quite a bit.
Not trying to start a "your just bashing a Ranger post" because I am not just trying to answer your questions. Doubt my Triton would run much faster with Stretch in it either ......
492 Slayer is right on the money on how you should be set up and about how that boat should run.

Re: Well since I need a new prop now I need some help.
KB, you are right on the money. Everyone thinks their Ranger is going to smoke the competition, but these boats just aren't designed for speed. Sure the new Z Series will get you a bit more on top end, but at the end of the day if you are touching 70, you are doing better than most. I run a Ranger, I know what it will do light, and how much I lose fully loaded. I am in the "Big Boy" club, so I'm carrying extra all the time
. Truth be told, prop work is only going to get most guys 1-2mph at best. You still have to know how to drive the boat. And as far as speed goes, WOT is usually limited to the first run of the day unless the water is flat, but if you are going to run Clear Lake or some of the other rough water lakes, odds are unless you are a nut, you'll be backing off the throttle anyways. Personally, I run a Bravo 1 4 blade Offshore prop that has been worked by Mark Croxton. It will carry my boat like no other, and if I get into 3-5' rollers, I can simply walk across them without having to worry about falling off pad. Overall performance is something a lot of guys don't think about. How a prop carries the nose of the boat, wether it slides or blows out cornering and holeshot are just a few of the things one should consider when choosing a prop. I ran a 27P Tempest A45 that was B/B and it screamed on my 492VS (76.24gps), but it sucked getting out of the hole when I loaded it down at the higher elevation lakes. I'm willing to give up a little on top to get over all performance.

Robert F, if you had a Merc, your boat would have sold a LONG time ago.

Robert, you were the guy who bought the pinto when it came out didn't you?

Re: Well since I need a new prop now I need some help.
I was pretty jealous of your AMC Pacer. I'm trying to get my phone pic posted of my boat's GPS showing 71 and change. I am sure that is what Steve wants to beat. He just can't understand that Angler's rigged his boat for another 4 foot tall, 80 pounder Joe Uribe.Kevin wrote:Robert, you were the guy who bought the pinto when it came out didn't you?

He remembers we had to take the blocks off the pedals and phone book out of the driver's seat.
BTW you better start kissing up to get me back in the Black. Just sold my boat.
Seriously thinking that new SHO is the goods. Doubt I will have any problems with it just like my E-Tec or the Merc. I had before that. They are all good when you take care of them. Just some are faster than others.

Re: Well since I need a new prop now I need some help.
That's why we'll see you in black again! As for what you said about Little Joe, I believe it.

Re: Well since I need a new prop now I need some help.
Robert just so u know it used to run 72-73 gps fully loaded.
I'm glad you finally sold that hunk of etec. Maybe know you'll pull your finger out fo your *** and get up here and start fishing.

Re: Well since I need a new prop now I need some help.
I remember that. Test drive those props. Maybe the one that threw the blade was damaged before it went. Lucky you weren't hurt. Those things can take a lower unit out when the blade flies off. Seeing the end of the tunnel with this house insurance deal so I might just show up to fish something in the next couple of weeks.wicked28 wrote:Robert just so u know it used to run 72-73 gps fully loaded.
