Two posts in the past couple days...I thought I was pretty well versed in fishing lure lore, but I've never heard of these?

They are a 3 1/2" curl tail worm that has a small diameter and a subtle curl tail. They were developed by a local angler named Mike Cato who is still active on the local tournament scene.
These worms have accounted for many top finishes and wins over the years especially when the bite is super tough. They were mainly rigged on dart heads (1/8 mostly) with light wire hooks. I would say that these worms played an important roll in ushering in the finnesse fishing era here in the west.
The most popular colors if I remember correctly were smoke/sparkle, clear/sparkle, black/sparkle and pearl. Maybe purple/sparkle too.
Fisherman's warehouse sells a similar knock-off but it has a slightly different tail and many folks say they just aren't quite as good as the original.
I don't know if anyone sells the original anymore.
I am actually looking for some 6" pearl or pearl/black laminated Gator Tails if anyone has any left...speaking of oldies but goodies. Am willing to buy or trade.
Hey KB, check your attic...I'll bet you've got some up there!

That brings back alot of memories, back in the old days we used them on lakes like Hogan where the fishing was tough. Little bits on a dart head, can you say "shaking" worms the Don Payne way.

I still use them for smallmouth. They don't make them anymore and to small for me to pour...
If anyone has any I'll buy or trade for them...going to Idaho in May/June along the Snake for smallies.......
