What club to join

Post by ppickerell »

I am lucky enough to have the time and resources to consider some club fishing. I have a 2003 Chapion 206 DC Elite with bells and whistles. I am a mildly afflicted gear whore. I am self employed and have an understanding wife. I have been fishing in the bay area for 30 years but have bass fished only for the last 5 or so. I am moderately successful in the delta and fish the foothill lakes from Shasta to McClure. I live in Pleasanton and am looking for suggestions as to which clubs would be a good fit that would allow me to regularly participate in events with my main intent to have fun and learn. Any suggestions?

Check out the clubs in the link on the front page of this site, on the top for local clubs in and around your area.
Also check out the California Bass Federation and get into a region
that you like, also in and around your area. A bunch of really good guys to fish with and against. Bill K :)
Fun fishing the country, each and every week.

I would seriously consider fishing the future pro tour their web site is www.futureprotour.net They are geared to amateurs providing tournaments in the central region (mother lode lakes) and Northern region from Delta to shasta. There is speakers before each tournament the night before that knows the lake being fished. very friendly informational instructional team circuit. Vince Harris is a great Director, gives a way lots of product. great TOC and only 80.00 to fish each tournament. Check out the web site www.furureprotour.net.

Some Things You May Want to Consider.........

Post by Richard - Sonora »

Alll clubs are not created equal. Consider format - do you want to fish with or against your non-boater? Do you want to fish with the same person in each tourney? Do you want to fish by yourself with or with out paying both sides of the entry fee? Do you want to have your Sunday (or Saturday) free for family or church?

These and more are questions that I asked of different clubs when I was window shopping for a club home. My choice? Modesto Castmasters. Saturday tournies, draw system where partners fish for a shared bag, boaters and non are tracked separately for annual points and awards. Interested? Shoot me an email or visit at Denny's on McHenry first Thursday of each month at 7:00p
See you there! Richard - Sonora (Veteran clubber).

Thanks for the responses

Thanks for all of the responses, I really appreciate it. A little more about me. I can fish any time during the week or either day on the weekends. I would prefer not to compete with my partner, I want to learn. I am not real good at flippin or pitchin but can run a baitcasting reel just fine. I would love to try Futurepro if my lack of skills would not create a big problem for my partner. I would prefer a club in the east bay for convenience sake. Am I better off signing up as a non-boater being that I am a rookie?

Non-Boater in a draw system will give you the most exposure*

Check out the Bass Classics of Santa Clara ... see my signature.

We're a friendly club and you can get more info on the website. We meet and fish once a month ... we fish all over Oroville to Nacimiento ... We'll be fishing Lake Tulloch this month, Delta next, McClure in April and Oroville in May ....

Future Pro Tour is a team format. You sign up and fish the whole year with the same partner. Even if you don't get a check you get points towards the end of the year Classic, which is a great experience. This is the way we started out, and we have found it to be educational, and a great learning experience. Plus it is a lot of fun. Check it out. www.futureprotour.net
