What’s happening to the fish?
What’s happening to the fish?
Caught this spot at Oroville today. Looks like it has some sort of disease/fungus/parasite? (See photo).Been hearing about the same type of thing affecting fish at New Melones, Hogan, etc., Anyone else seeing this out there as well? And does anyone know exactly what it is?

Re: What’s happening to the fish?
Looks like a lymphocystis virus of some type. Contact the DFW.

Re: What’s happening to the fish?
Last time I fished Melones which was a few years ago most of the spotted bass had that and the lake wasn't fishing as good as the previous year. Prior to that trip the fish were clean and the lake was fishing as good as it ever had. It all changed in one year.
I doubt anything will ever be done about it. It's probably just natures way of resetting the lake the same way Clearlake seems to cycle with all the fish die offs.

In all of our mother lode lakes I have seen this happen for years. It is usually this time of year when they are sucking the **** outta the water. I think it’s stress from the depletion of our high water

It’s been called the “hick”
Not sure why . Several
articles written by biologists . Has to do with stress on the fish . Specifically in the fall with severe water draw downs .
