I believe "best" is subjective, I think it depends on what you like in your own line, and what types/actions of rods you prefer to use.
My personal favorites are:
Spinning and baitcasting, six pound berkley 100% fluorocarbon, I throw this on all my spinning rods and my baitcasting dropshot rod. When I did throw mono on my spinning rods I stuck with P-Line CX in six pound, I know a lot of people will say it's horrible, but it really worked for me.
So the simple answer is:
Fluoro: Berkley 100% fluorocarbon
Mono: P-Line CX
and an honorable mention for me is good ol' bass pro Excel!

I have been using my Suffix DNA line in 6 lb for the past 10 years - it is amazing how long a bulk spool of 3000 yards will getcha

I recently purchased a spool of Viscious fluor 8lb that I am putting on my darthead rod - I have not used fluor on a spinning reel in about 7 years so perhaps I willl like it this time around :?

Same for me. Tried Vicious and did not like it in any way. To brittle and stiff, even in lower line weights. Will be interesting to see another opiion. BIll K :)

P-Line Fluoroclear (Clear or Green)

P-Line CX is also a very good line, and pretty much the same vis a Fluoroclear since it too if Fluoro coated.

I was using 100% Flouro and a friend of mine kicked my ARS using Mono. Go figure. The fish didn't mind the Mono one bit, my buddy kept asking how much I paid for the flouro every time he put a fish in the boat

Its all I use... occasionally I will throw some Sugoi or Seaguar but Maxima from cranks to worms/jigs and swimbaits.

You left out the crucial Maxima 5lb Ultra green!

I don't usually fish anything but 5lb Maxima on my spinning gear as i find it to be pretty dang strong!!!

SEAGUAR Abrazx all the way. This stuff is strong and seems to last a lot longer for me.

I know the 5 is out there but ive always thrown the 4 and 6 for spots and smallies with 1/4 and 3/8 oz jigs in winter time. Ill go 6 & 8 for Largemouth in winter time with the same 1/4 & 3/8 oz. Ill change go 8 &10 when i get to mid feb for largemouth and 6 & 8 mid feb for spots and smallies. I dont throw any jigs over 1/2oz and that very rare even in deep water.

Yo-Zuri Ultra-Soft is the best light test line I've ever used for spinning rod applications. The 6# and 8# tests are great for dartheading, dropshotting and splitshotting; super strong, limp and abrasion resistent. It's a bit tougher to find, but definitely worth it.
