What's with the bass at Oroville? They look very sick

Post by Daren Prociw »

I went fishing at Oroville today and caught several bass that had what appear to be sores on the entire body. There were several red wounds on then, white film on the eyes, like cataracts, and scales sluffing off. What gives? Is there a disease in the lake, if so, its really BAD! I caught fish all over the lake and most had this issue but some seemed ok. Just wondering.

There's a bacteria that's infecting the fish, apparently it's always there it's just when the water got so warm the fish became susceptible. It's supposedly not lethal and as the water cools down the fish should recover. It does look pretty nasty. The lake quite low but was another forty feet down 3-4 yrs ago. It's probably going to get that low this year.

it happens practically every year, on almost every body of water. The Delta, Clear Lake, etc. when the warm water temps arive. It will dissapear just as the water turns over.
