What's your Favorite Crankbait...

Post by sTony »

I absolutely love throwing cranks. Always have and likely always will. There's just something about the feel of a glass rod with a crank on the other end, and then a fish! My first journey into bass fishing was with a crankbait and is likely why I love 'em so much. Over the years I've amassed quite a few of them but almost all with one criteria in mind; I simply can't afford to spend a lot on them. And thankfully there's always been manufacturers that have kept the price of many of their cranks affordable to me. So, needless to say, I don't have a lot of Luckycrafts and other assorted high-end cranks. I tend to use Bombers, Normans, Wordens, Strike King, Berkley and what not. I tend to throw them into and around heavy cover a lot, over and into rock on the delta and, shallower runners over grass and such. But I really love cranking deep walls and ledges and such. Because I try to figure out how to bang them into just about everything I throw it on, I do occasionally lose or, more often, break them. It's a big part of why I buy the cranks I do; where I can afford two or three baits to one high-end bait.

So, what's your favorite crankbait(s), why, and when do find yourself throwing it the most?

zXCalibur Xr100 or the XCalibur Xr75 Rattle Bait.

Great hooks out of the box.
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

Too many to list..Currently one of my favorites is the Jackall DD Cherry..I know bouncing the bait off an obstruction is often a key to triggering strikes, but to my knowledge I have never had a strike after bouncing my lure off of anything..I guess I am just doing it wrong..

My first favorite was a Bomber 7a in Red Craw.. A Norman DD22 (Lavender Shad) has accounted for my biggest crankbait fish. But I sure like the Specialty Tackle Junior D and the Luckycraft CB350 in Chartreuse shad and a speed trap as well.... all have their place and time. :)

I'd have to say the Norman dd22 for sure and an old school fat free shad.I tried the lucky crafts and they have some good color patterns but luck wise they just never did that well for me.

Norman Deep Lil N - Spring Craw
Bomber Long A - in Brown Green

Lucky Craft BDS 3 in Delta Craw
Jackall - Aragon
Speed Trap - come on you know you have em
Radar 10 - One of the few baits that gets down to 10' and has a small profile.

I would say most of my cranks consist of Norman, then Bomber, speed traps and I always have at least two of the BDS3's.

I dont typcially purchase expensive crank baits but that Lucky Craft BDS is something special.

Triple Treezy  I like the old school Poe's cedar plugs in red and blk. SOmething bout the density of the cedar. Not beautiful to look at but it gets destroyed. The cranks from specialty tackle I like as well the junior d and the bigger one they have. Of course nothing like raking the bottom with a dd-22.. sob lures rattlin shad and the lc lv500 for rattle traps

RAPALA, then BOMBER, all colors until the bite or busting shad stop and a crank is the best bait to put in a kids hand to catch there first fish, it's like giving them a toy to put i the water until a fish hits it............lol

Thats easy, my all time favorite is the Rapala Down Deep Ratteling Fat Rap #5 in Natural Shad. It still to this day burns me up that they discontinued it. When I heard they were going to stop making them I stocked up on them. I'm currently down to my last 5.

Next would have to be the Norman DD22

2010, I caught a lot of big bass on the Jackall Muscle Deep. Great deep driver, and cast better/further than any other deep driver I've used. Most night derbies at DVL, I always have a Jackall or a DD22 tied on :?

Timber Tiger DC-8 I really dig it.

Delta, just to evaluate the bite and figure out what I think is going on.

I have an entire box of Luhr Jensen Speed Traps (1/4oz). For a shallow crank these are hard to beat.I have caught hundreds of fish on them. Favorite colors: rootbeer and crystal crawdad

For deeper cranking Normans- deep little n and dd22 are great. good color selection and price

Tackle Warehouse has the best prices and selection that I have found and they are always adding the newest baits....P.S. has anyone tried the new backstabber crank bait with the top hook?
