Who fishes tournaments from an aluminum?
I saw a few nice tin boats at the 100% on Sunday.
It got me thinking, how many of you fish tournaments out of them?
What brand are you using?
Motor size?
Cost new?
Local dealers? Or order?
Like it, or not?
Just interested....

Don't be lame. It's just fishing; you are not the new mesiah you know! Check your attitude at the door Mr. Spinners on da boat trailer.
Re: Who fishes tournaments from an aluminum?
I'm glad you asked that question as the Family Bass Club from Fresno is sponsoring a Tracker Nitro Tour for Tracker/Nitro owners. We are interested in inviting all Tracker Aluminum boat owners to find a partner and fish our 5 tournament series this year. Nitro owners are also invited. The first tournament is on March 11 at Don Pedro. No TOC. End of year payout to Anglers of the Year.
The Family Bass Club currently has three boaters fishing out of Tracker Aluminum boats. Two are 17s and one is an 18. Two 50 H.P., and one 60H.P. Mercury's.
For more information on the TNT circuit, visit valleyboat.com, or email me at duaneg4@prodigy.net.

Re: Who fishes tournaments from an aluminum?
I fish out of a 19' G3, an HP190 to be exact. Its awesome, fast (67mph + with gear) efficent, and just as much room as a glass boat. It handles big water, tows well, and was alot cheaper too!!
Its my second bass boat, first was glass. I didn't buy glass because I couldn't afford a new one at the time and didn't want to buy used. I don't know that I will ever buy a glass boat now!

Re: Who fishes tournaments from an aluminum?
Sorry I forgot the rest of your question. It has a 150 HPDI and I paid $17,500 for it brand new. It was a crazy deal and I had to drive to Wyoming to pick it up. There is a dealer in the Walnut Creek area who does my warranty/mx. You can get a new 20' with a 200 HP for $22,000-$25,000 if you shop around. I love it if you can't tell!!

Re: Who fishes tournaments from an aluminum?
I have an '04 Tracker 175, 50hp Merc 4 stroke. I love my boat. I did upgrade to a Motorguide 82 Pro trolling motor, because the boat is a sail in the wind. It rides higher in the bow, and is light.
It trailers easily, great gas mileage from the 4 stroke.
And it handles rough water (2'+ rollers) just fine. Of course, you can't drive like an idiot in it, but, with a topend of 32mph+, it never goes fast enough to get into real trouble.
If I had it to do again, I'd upgrade to the 60hp Merc., so I' could get the legal 35mph max, but, other than that, it's been great.
There are lots of upgrades that make it more fishable. I recessed the trolling motor pedal, and no more back spasms on the way home.
I built a plywood tackle box/deck fill-in between the console and the rod lock, so my coangler can fish the bow, too.
I increased the rod locker capacity by opening up the bow access, and opening the aluminum finger that limited the rod capacity to 6'11". I glued some carpet on the inside face of the hull at that point, and now I can put 9' rods in there, no problem.
Maintenance is cheap, yearly service and grease it twice a year, price was right, $17k out the door. My F150 with the small Triton V8 tows it fine.
Great livewell system, except there aren't enough 5lbers in it!
I only fish club tournaments, so this is plenty of boat for me.
I would look at a bigger aluminum boat if I were going to fish A.C., WON, or any of the other trails.

Hey Dave, remember when o'l skeeterbug first turned pro and landed his first boat sponsor with Fisher boats! He drove around in that 18 ft. aluminum for a year! He went out and won the Won Bass pro am on the delta! And I think he won at Don Pedro too!
I wonder who bought that from him!,....

Re: Who fishes tournaments from an aluminum?
My partner & I fish the Angler's Choice Pro series in a new 19' Lund Tournament Series 1900 Pro-V SE from Gone Fishin' Marine in Dixon, CA and we love it. Here's the low-down:
- 200HP Optimax.
- Minn Kota Maxxum 101
- Dual Console
- Lowrance LCX110c rear, LCX17m front
Trimmed up she'll do well over 60mph & is unbelievably stable despite the low profile. Tons of room & storage. We've fished out of Nitros & Skeeters, also from Gone Fishin Marine, but love the Lund. The new Nitro Z9 they have there is pretty sick though!

2003 Triton 186 Magnum with a 150 HP Yamaha. Got a deal on this boat I couldn't pass up.
Re: Who fishes tournaments from an aluminum?
Jcruz,
Did you buy that boat from John Ericson? That HPPI powered boat is awesome. It can accellerate better than any glass boat and the maintnence is almost nothing. Sweet ride. If that's the same boat, we ran Redbud to Rodman on a quarter of a tank. Can't beat that. Wish I would of bought it.

I have a Tracker Pro-Team 185 with a four stroke 75 Merc on the back. Has fished great with the exception of really rough water 3+ rollers.
