Who likes to nightfish during spring?

Post by Blue_R70 »

Just wondering how many of you guys fish at night during springtime. I'm just wondering because I personally, don't really start night fishing until the temps or crowds make it unbearable to get out during the more normal/daylight hours.

Oh, I have no doubt that early night fishing can be good. I just associate it as a seasonal thing. You know, like sweaters + xmas or barbeques + summer...

I agree, I think most fishermen are fair weathered people unless they are serious. They would rather fish when the weather is good and in daylite hours. Your rite though, it can be great. Just not alot of people try it so they dont know. :D

Well, this past weekend... 2 nights of fishing gained a 7.5, a couple of 5's, and some hellacious strikes that hit harder than the afore mentioned!... and in the daytime... usual rats! Wish I would have hit the full weekend of moonlit nights!

Hey Blue. I fished just nights for many many years all year long till I started using swimbaits, now I go home at dark LOL! Even in Dec freeze I night fished, got two over 10 lbs at Mc Clure in Dec Night fishing. It is good all year long at night. It is the same as day fishing the bite goes on and off. My best fish mostly came on a New Moon. I don't think the Moon played that much a roll on catching fish but just maybe it did on the Big ones. If you get into it and like the nights you may like it at this time because the nights are long. I have fished with running lights on and off and even black light. The boat lights don't hurt a thing being on. I have had a few killer limits with lights on so don't stress on the lights.

Best of luck!

Don.

I agree with Don, night fishing is great year round. Bass are just like Hollywood, they eat all day and all night.... lol

And don't fall for anything that Hank Parker says about night fishing. You do not need a night fishing kit. Vibration baits are good, but there are time when a 4 inch worm will kill them all night long.

There is nothing you can read that will make up for time spent on the water at night. Fishing for bass is a little different at night. A black light helps providing you have the right line. The only time I don't like to night fish is in the wind.

Good fishing,

Used to do it all the time in Florida - haven't really done it out here.

I remember many nights being on Orange lake with a Black Lunker Lure buzzbait. Plop Plop Plop BOOM!!!

Adrenaline rush to say the least!

Hey guys if you are really interested in night bassin' give the voo-doo bait a shot I guarentee you'll enjoy the experience. Recently one of my pro staff members had a heck of a night on a 1/2 oz. blk blu and he was throwing it on braid, he was working it somewhat like a rattle trap; letting it ride right over the weeds and occasionally ripping it out. He reported that the strikes were vicious, give it a shot and let me know your results, meanwhile I'll keep making them while you guys get to go fish them. Check em' out at bass tackle depot, send me your pics- they could be worth something!

I have night fished Clear Lake about 10 nights since late November and the bite has been pretty good. Night fishing is usually very good OR - very not-so-good. It is not as consistant as day fishing. One thing I like is that you don't have to bring the kitchen sink to night fish. Just jigs, worms, brush or Power hogs, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits. Senkos are great during the full moon, especially color #135. Remember, safety is at a different level at night. Don't leave your confort zone at night - things look different at night!!!! If you fish big, open water lakes like Clear Lake, you better know something about wind patterns!!!!! I have spend my whole adult life trying to learn these weather patterns and I still get a surprise now and then. Finally, don't get over confident at night - if you let your mind wander, you can run into something - a rockpile, dock, etc. I have had two close calls, fishing by myself, not paying attention. There is not much room for error at night. Otherwise, night fishing can be a hoot - AND - you don't get moonburn!!!!!

Good responses from everyone. I just may have to start my night fishing earlier than normal this season...
