Why is My Active Target Screen blinking?

Post by B-Dawg »

I just wanted to know why My Carbon 9 Active Target screen is blinking so frequently, and what I can do to fix it. It's pretty much useless with how much it blinks (about once every second).

Replace your battery or improve your connections; the rapid blinking usually means the voltage is right at the fringe minimum.

I had the same issue. It would start blinking about two hours into the day. I added a second battery and it stopped. It was suggested to me that a dedicated (heavier 10 gauge) wire could/would have resolved the issue. It appears that steady amperage to the unit is the root of it all.

You may need to upgrade your wire. I upgraded to 8 gauge.

Scroll through your display options and choose to display your voltage, this will give you a good indication.

I agree with Dave. Active Target requires a bunch of voltage. When your adding Active Target with graphs, the factory wiring in most cases is not heavy enough. I cured my voltage issues with a dedicated 10 ga. wire to all my graphs and Active Target module. The blinking screens and at times a complete shutdown of the graphs went away. I later added the Sea Clear wiring harness, which I highly recommend.

2 batteries if you can. Hook all the main items to one and the Active Target to its own circuit. For the best picture you should separate your AT from everything. 8 Gauge wire and seperate 30amp fuse on/off switch, and a seperate fuse circuit board is best. Make sure to turn off any other downscan or regular fish finder transducers that may be running for the clearest picture as they will definitely cause a disturbance, possibly blinking, in your picture. Only run the AT transducer. Put the sensitivity in Manual mode and set at around 80 to 85. Take off the Noise Rejection to low or, best off. Stable view on. I am able to see my line, swivels, etc. Hope this helps.

As it happens, I wrote an article about this very topic, and have a video included with the article:
