So after a long hiatus for the off season, Windy Wednesday Nights pre season has begun with 40 boats. When I got there (around 1pm) Josh was already there, so I loaded up the boat with about 16 lbs of my own stuff and having stopped at "The Bass Hole" and added another 5 lbs, it was time to retie. Diligently I retied everything with the wind howling making WWN live up to it's name. As we were getting ready to launch, here comes "Pops" with some papers. WOW! Liability waivers and............rules. (see copy at end of post) OK simple enough. With a slight delay on the launch, we were off on the choppy San Joaquin. Our first spot produced blank. Second spot I pick up a 1.7 on a senko and Josh gets a rat. Next spot we work some beds. Josh gets a 2 1/2. Time is running out so I suggest (with a negative tide) we check out some marinas on the way back. It's now 7:30 with an 8:15 weigh in. on the way to the back of the marina Josh catches a couple of pound and a halfers. We now have 4 on a tough bite. In the back Josh hangs his crankbait up on a boat canvas and maneuvers the boat to retrieve it. I make a cast and the old familiar thump vibrates up the line and rod (old g loomis). I start to reel and lean back . Immediately I tell Josh get the net. (Now I figure this is about a 4lber when the surface breaks and the largest bass I have ever seen shows her self and the reel starts singing that old familiar sound as she takes off for the weeds, then under the boat, now towards the boat docks. I get her stopped and the 10lb fluro is straining to say the least. Its now a tug of war waiting for her to give up the ghost. (Now I've got a few double digits under my belt, but never have I had anything like this, definitely over ten, probably a teener) As she finally starts to come my way, I position Josh on the back of the boat. But I underestimate the amount of line I have out, and as I lift her to the surface shes about 5 yards from the boat. Slow and steady I carefully pull her toward the net when POP! the line breaks. I'm in shock. (still am) (Josh is lucky he got to see a chubby old guy cry

) That fish not only would have filled our limit, but big fish was only 6.07, and we would've smoked that, plus got second place. Phil and Aaron are tuff to beat, congrats to them. Took 22 for the win, 15 for second, and 10s for 3-5.. What a night. Hey folks this is a more the merrier series that Gerry and Richard put on and for $60.00 cash can't be beat, some come join us on a Wednesday evening and have some fun.
