Winter topwater
I have heard guys mention winter topwater on these forums before and talk about punkers etc. I recently got a toxic slop stopper which is a decent size walking bait and was wonder if you guys had any advice about when to throw topwater in the winter and if it even works lol....

Bass will hit topwater when they are up in the water column, and in winter, that means a few days of sunshine and warming water temps on the edge of shallow flats.

Spotted Bass will hit topwater all year, I've caught some good ones and lost some huge spots on long tapering points in January on spooks.

i always keep a spook in the boat. I had some crazy days on Berryessa with schooling fish in the winter. the cold doesn't seem to bother the spots at all also.
Re: Winter topwater
Just about every January we get those two or three days in a row that damn near reach 70 degrees...I lick my chops and bust out the 8" Punker....those big girls love to sun on rock in the afternoon and will definitely make the trip up for a BIG, SLOW meal. It might be a one or two bite day but with the 8" Punker it's the right bite. Get some "that guy has no idea what he's doing throwing top in January" looks...but that's ok, I'm clearly clueless.
