WON Bass Lake Mead

Post by borderbuck »

Hello all. I will be fishing as an amature in the upcoming Lake Mead Pro am in March. It is my first Pro am and first time on Lake Mead. I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction in terms of what to expect on the lake as I will be travelling a great distance and need to pack effectively. Any help would be appreciated.

BB :)

BRING YOUR RAIN GEAR. Also bring a back brace for rough water. 1 more thing make sure your tackle box velcro's tight and you always have your rods strapped down. March can be wet, windy, rough, and also good fishing.Drop shot, texas rig, jig, and darthead.Oh also carolina rig and maybe some reaction as in cranks, jerkbaits, traps, and possibly spinnerbaits and maybe flukes. Mostly of the back of the boat with bottom baits though.
If you have any pain pills bring them after a long day and rough water. They can come in handy after making an afternoon run back from T-Bar or Overton.

March is crank bait time for me on Mead, in shad patterns. Just be ready to catch a few stripers. Most of the normal spring time stuff, jigs and tubes work real well. Watermelon tubes, brown and purple jigs. Shad pattern spinnerbaits, and don't forget your drop shot stuff. Ray is right about the wind!

Bring a good helmet or something to cover your head going down lake. Ray is right, Mead is a B!TCH this time of year if the weather gets nasty. I would expect to see rough water out there this time of year.

Thanks for the input, just bought new raingear!! Question about being an amature...how many rods would a typical Am bring...ie: I want to be respectful to the PRO and not take up too much space. Also do Pro's typically provide a life jacket or is that my obligation? Thanks for the feedback.

I would bring your own life jacket. Most pro's will carry an extra, but you're always better off to have your own just in case they don't. You won't need any more than 5 sticks. At Mead you might even be able to get away with 4 (2 spinning, 2 casting).

You'll need either license plus a "use stamp" that covers Mead & Mohave.

Are any of you fishing the A/C Pro Am the weekend before the WON Bass?
