We will never know what the current world record bass looked like; no photo, no photo of the bass with the Perry, no photo with the bass on the weight scale, no photo of the bass with a ruled scale, no ceritfied weight slip. The length 32" with 28 1/2" girth has always caused questions, unless it was measured hanging down with the mouth open. The fact that back in 1932, during the depression, few families owned a camera or had money for film if they did. Perry, a 20 year old farmer, had the foresight to measure the bass; length and girth. Very unusual even today to measure the girth. Today we measure bass length with the mouth closed.
The vintage Toledo postal or market scales used back in the early 30's were only accurate to within a few ounces, depending how you looked at the scale face; 1/4 lb increments with 1 ounce divisons. My lab qaulity Chatillion spring scale has 1 ounce division for the 25 lbs scale and accurate within 2%, depending how you lined up the indicator. The IGFA rules are old and based on older scales.
Digital scales are only as accurate as the power supply, low battery = higher weights.
The Kurita bass calculates to be 22.31 lbs, .062 or 1 ounce heavier then Perry's undocumented offical weight. The Perry bass lives on in the record books.
It's about time we have an offically weighed and documented bass as a record, IMO.

What a fricken Donkey! It would be nice to hold that thing in captivity and grow it safe and sound where it can be watched and nursed and bread for future generations. Only a fish that large has the genetic capabilities of producing offspring with the same gene pool of other giant LMB.

I wouldnt mind having it my tank. Im pretty sure it might maybe fit!
