I was wondering about a 150 hp or so...
Re: Would you run a Honda on a bassboat?...*NM*
Yes. When I lived in Disco Bay I had a neighbor who ran a 200HP Honda on the back of a Triton. The gas mileage was great and at full throttle the motor ran very quiet. To the point where we could have a conversation at open throttle without screaming at each other. Apparently they are really big in the salt water boats, but you don't see them too often on the back of bass boats.
If you're upgrading and not worried about extra incentives for tournaments running a specific brand I would say go for it.

I rode in a 18' Triton with a 150 hp Honda. Not a knock on Honda, but it won't have the acceleration or top end of a DFI 2-stroke. If performance isn't important to you, go for it.

Hondas are good motors, but you have to look at their weight differences when compared to other similar models. They generally weigh quite a bit more. Which may be a reason you dont see too many of them on bass boats.

I sure wish honda made a dfi, they are the most reliable engine on the planet bar none. ask anyone who rides there bikes or drives there cars.
4 strokes are heavy for there horse power so no I wouldnt run one but if theres a day when we have to run 4 strokes or honda buildes a two stroke they would be my first choice

I was told by a marine mechanic that Honda outboards that are V-6's are a modified version of their V-6 auto motor. He stated that is why they are a bit heavier and larger, but that they are the same motor turned on end.

Yes, the Honda 225 Outboard is a V6 Vtec that can be found in the Acura/Honda line-up. It is the same motor found in the MDX, TL and several other Cars and SUV's.

If you are looking for a 4-stroke .... I would take the time to reserch the Yamaha as well.
Parts are way more easily to get if something should happen, as they are perdy much International on the market.

You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

I run a 200 Honda on a 19.5 ft Triton. It is a reliable motor and quiet. You give up acceleration (hole shot can be an issue) and top end speed. I feel I give up 8mph to a comparable HPDI 2 stroke. If you are used to bass boats that run a 200 most push a 25" prop. I can't. If you fish small lakes or restricted speed lakes I feel what's the difference. I you fish big water with long runs you could be a little frustrated. I have also found to enjoy the real fuel economy you need to back off to around 4,700RPM. When you push full throttle it uses more fuel. I would think a 17.5 to 18 ft class boat with a 150 would have similar issues. I enjoy my motor, love not worrying about oil and like the fuel economy.
If you do the Honda find skinny fishing partners it helps the hole shot.
