I'm looking for some advice on a good campsite in the Yosemite area, heading up the weekend of 10/11.
Has anyone ever camped in the El Portal area along the Merced River on 140 near the entrance to the park?
Was also looking at the Hodgden Meadow or Crane Flat campgrounds, but can't get too much info on them from the website.
Most importantly i'm trying to find a nice campsite alongside a river where i can fish.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Ryan

Re: Yosemite Camping, Help!
I always took my family up to Tenaya Lake, on the way to Toulomne Meadows.
I don't know if they allow overnight camping. It's been a long time since I've been there.
Last time I heard, you had to have a reservation to stay overnight in the park.
If I were you, I'd call up the park and check it out.

Well as long as you don't 'tell on me' There is a couple of nice campgrounds right along the Merced river with some good trout fishing.
along the Merced River.
Camp Ground: Dry Gulch on hiwy # 140,
also Sierra Flat campground
$19 per night, plus $5 per extra car, max. 6 per site.
These campgroud are right on the bank of the river and are along the old railroad 'right of way' so you can take long easy walks along the river to find the spot you like the most.

Re: Yosemite Camping, Help!
Thanks for the help guys. Dry Gulch campground looks perfect, however its a first come first serve and only has 4 sites (from the website). All the Yosemite Park campgrounds seem to be booked, so hopefully this works.
Thanks again, if anyone else has some back up places in case Dry Gulch is unavailable let me know.
