Your Choice for a Crankin' Reel

Post by Gary Ryon »

Which reel, in your opinion, is the best crankin' reel, for a reasonable price on the market today? Picks would include the Quantum Tour Editiion PT and the Curado 200 DSV.

Your preference????

I like my Shimano Calcutta Conquests for blades and cranks. I was lucky and got a few for half price (200 bucks). These are the best reels made in my opinion, easy casting and effortless cranking power w/ slower ratio and big gears

Hey Tom,
How you doing?? Good luck at Top Stick this weekend. I was a wondering if you were going to pre fish Pyrmid before the 20th. I am asking cause, well if you were and you you don't mind I would love to go with. The only thing is I can't go on the 15th as that is the day I'm getting to move into my apartment finally. Let me know if and when you can. Same deal, I will help with gas.

Gary,

I would go with Shimano over Quantum any day. But my second choice would be the Abu Revo

Lance good job at Castiac. I would've come over and said hello but was not in the mood after the tough day we had. Oh yeah the revo is good for crankin

Ya you should of came by. Castaic was tougher Sunday thats for sure, it was harder to find the bigger fish. The bigger fish....I have no idea where they went.

Gary...Revo....DO IT

For larger cranks such as DD 22s, I would fish the Curado 200DPV. I was put on this reel by Mike Phua while we were fishing the delta. I was fishing a TDZ-103P (5:1) and Mike was using the 200DPV and allowed me to make a cast. I was amazed with the gearing on the 200DPV. It was effortless and I even wondered if the lure broke off.

My first concern was the casting ability of the 200DPV (due to its size). However, it surprising casted better than my TDZ-103P.

If a smaller reel is wanted, I would suggest the TD Zillion Crazy Cranker.
