American Sportfishing Association names Glenn Hughes ASA President
The American Sportfishing Association's (ASA) board of directors is pleased to announce that Glenn Hughes, ASA's Vice President for Industry Relations, has been hired to take on the role of President beginning April 1, 2018. The announcement was made during the board of directors meeting which convened today at the 2017 Sportfishing Summit, the association's annual business meeting, being held October 10-13, at the Opal Sands Resort in Clearwater Beach, Fla.

Distribution of Funding Applauded by Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies
The Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies applauds Deputy Secretary Bernhardt's announcement about allocating much needed funding to state wildlife agencies and Native American and Alaskan tribes through the State Wildlife Grants (SWG) program and the Tribal Wildlife Grant (TWG) program. This funding helps address critical fish and wildlife needs by supporting species and habitats listed in approved state wildlife actions plans and encouraging key partnerships for wildlife conservation.

American Sportfishing Association Elects Board of Directors Members for 2017
Alexandria, VA – June 28, 2017 – Four members of the American Sportfishing Association(ASA) were elected to fill two regional seats and two At-Large seats on the board of directors. Their terms begin October 1, 2017, and they will serve three-year terms. Last October, the membership voted to amend the by-laws and now ASA’s board members may serve two, three-year consecutive terms instead of three, two-year terms.

Shoaling has created hazardous conditions
The Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, the famed 1100-plus mile coastal waterway stretching from Norfolk, Virginia to Miami, Florida, is getting "thin." Shoaling has created hazardous conditions in some areas with depths reported less than 5 feet – which reflects a remarkable 7 feet of water depth lost in the waterway's authorized minimum depth of 12 feet. The Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway Association (AIWA), a waterways interest group, recently gathered in Washington, DC, to ensure the Department of Transportation-designated marine highway M-95 is a top priority for Congress and the Trump Administration.

Race for Top Collegiate Angling Teams Highlights Three Schools
The Association of Collegiate Anglers has released the first rankings of the 2017 Cabela's Collegiate Bass School of the Year presented by Abu Garcia race, and it comes as no surprise to college fishing fans to see some of the top fishing schools in the nation holding the top three spots. With over four months and 12 events now completed, the Murray State University bass team has taken an early lead in the season long quest to be crowned the best fishing team in the nation.
