CTT has teamed up with Bass Angler Headquarters (BHQ) to produce a professional show with on-the-water coverage of morning blast-offs, fishing action, interviews, weigh-ins, post weigh-in reaction, analysis and awards.

Commercial and Recreational Rock Crab and Recreational Dungeness Crab Fisheries Open in Southern Portion of the State
On Dec. 31, 2015, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and the Fish and Game Commission (Commission) were notified by the director of the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) that, in consultation with the director of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), a determination has been made that Dungeness and rock crab caught on the mainland coast south of 35° 40′ N Latitude (near Piedras Blancas Light Station in San Luis Obispo County) no longer poses a significant human health risk from high levels of domoic acid and that the fisheries should be opened in a manner consistent with the emergency regulations.

Weekends — Sandhill Crane Wetland Tour at the Woodbridge Ecological Reserve. CDFW docent-led public tours are available to view greater and lesser sandhill cranes at Woodbridge Ecological Reserve outside of Lodi, W Woodbridge Road (95242). Self-guided tours are also available and are enhanced with interpretive panels.

California DFW Slates Meetings on Groundfish Management
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) will hold five public workshops to discuss groundfish management in California. Attendees will hear an overview of recent groundfish management and science developments and then participate in focused stakeholder discussions on potential changes to recreational and commercial fishery management measures for 2017 and 2018. Several new groundfish stock assessments conducted in 2015 show some previously overfished stocks have been restored, possibly allowing for increased fishing opportunities.

Sherman Lake, Stripers and More
Striper anglers are now starting to pick up fish along the lower reaches of the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers. Lure tossers and bait anglers are both finding lots of small stripers with an occasional ten-pounder. Some of the more dedicated anglers have picked up some fish in the twenty-pound class already this year.

Commission Delays Opener of Recreational Dungeness Crab Season and Closes Northern Part of Recreational California Rock Crab Fishery
The California Fish and Game Commission today voted 3-0 in favor of an emergency rulemaking to prohibit recreational take and possession of Dungeness crab and all rock crab from ocean waters, including bays and estuaries, north of the Ventura/Santa Barbara county line. Closure of the fisheries shall remain in effect until the Director of the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), in consultation with the Director of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), determines that domoic acid levels no longer pose a significant risk to public health and no longer recommends the fisheries be closed.
