Dale Russell Lowe, Jr has caught big catfish before, just not this big! He was fishing the Icebowl Tournament on John H. Kerr Reservoir (Buggs Island Lake). The reservoir is bounded by Virginia and North Carolina. "My cousin Stephen Faircloth fishes that tournament with me every year," said Lowe. "I had two of the most important people in the world with me on the boat. It was a bonus to have Stephen and my son Chase with me."

For the third time in six months, Lake Gaston has produced another blue catfish state record. The holder this time is 15-year-old Landon Evans, of Benson, who landed a 117-pound, 8-ounce whopper on June 11.

Charles Patchen (13) from Alabama caught a 63.8-pound flathead catfish on the Chattahoochee River in Jackson County at 2:30 p.m. on May 15. He beat the previous certified state record by more than eight pounds.

It's time to grab a bag of shrimp or hot dogs -- our first scheduled catfish stocking will be Thursday, March 24 in the core waters. Each year the Arizona Game and Department stocks catfish at least 11 times per year in core waters, and three times per year in "expansion waters."
