    Fourth Klamath Salmon Fishing Quota Nearly Met, Catch Will Be Subject to Size Restriction

    North coast anglers are about to meet their seasonal salmon quota in another popular spot, triggering new restrictions on the Trinity River fishery. Monitoring efforts show that anglers above Cedar Flat on the Trinity River will have caught their quota of 183 adult fall-run Chinook, 22 inches or longer, by sundown on Friday, Oct. 21. After the quota is met, anglers will still be able to fish in this area but must release any Chinook longer than 22 inches.

    Hi All, As I begin to write this message for the fall issue, I once again am amazed that another season has passed so quickly. Once again, it has been eventful for us in the bass fishing world. We have another WON Bass U.S. Open winner to congratulate as Johnny Johnson recently became the newest fishermen to join the ranks of the prestigious family of champions. Looking back we also have other fishing memories and battles to celebrate including the 15th annual Snag Proof Open, the Don Lee Memorial tournament and the Delta limits victory. As this goes to press, we await two of the biggest western TOC’s of the year with WWBT’s Lucas Oil Western Classic and BBT’s Tournament of Champions with $20K guaranteed cash for the winning team on the line. I look forward to watching for the outcomes of both of these events and the other TOC’s and specialty events like the River2Sea Open that will soon be blasting off.     WASHINGTON — The following was released by the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation: The global commercial catch of tuna — a valuable, natural protein food source — reached 5 million tons in 2014, an increase from 4.6 million in 2013, according to the ISSF Tuna Stock Status Update – 2016 (Status of the World Fisheries for Tuna) report just published by the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF). The report can be downloaded from the ISSF Status of the Stocks page. Tuna accounts for approximately 6% of the world's 81.5-million-ton marine catch.

    The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) announces the recreational Pacific halibut fishery will close Saturday, Sept. 24 at 12:01 a.m. for the remainder of 2016. Based on the latest catch projections, CDFW expects the 2016 quota of 29,640 pounds will be exceeded unless the fishery is closed.

    Feather River Hatchery Fish Ladder Opened Today

    The fish ladder at Feather River Hatchery in Oroville opened today, Monday, Sept. 19, signaling the start of the spawning season on the Feather River. California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) hatchery workers opened the gates in the ladder about 8 a.m. They will take more than 3 million spring-run eggs and 12 million fall-run eggs over the next two months in order to produce Chinook salmon for release next spring.
