    Fourth Klamath Salmon Fishing Quota Nearly Met, Catch Will Be Subject to Size Restriction

    North coast anglers are about to meet their seasonal salmon quota in another popular spot, triggering new restrictions on the Trinity River fishery. Monitoring efforts show that anglers above Cedar Flat on the Trinity River will have caught their quota of 183 adult fall-run Chinook, 22 inches or longer, by sundown on Friday, Oct. 21. After the quota is met, anglers will still be able to fish in this area but must release any Chinook longer than 22 inches.

Long known for its successful national fishing line recycling program, the BoatUS Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water will be tackling the challenging problem of waterborne junk in three projects this spring that will help remove large debris, a sunken fishing boat, and will explore the issue of boats running afoul of commercial fishing gear.

    State health officials determined today that rock crab species caught in state waters near the Channel Islands no longer contain high levels of domoic acid, and no longer pose a significant risk to human health. Acting upon a recommendation from the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), in consultation with the director of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and the Fish and Game Commission has opened the recreational and commercial rock crab fisheries in this area.

    The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and the Fish and Game Commission (Commission) were notified today by the director of the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) that, in consultation with the director of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), a determination has been made that Dungeness crab caught on the mainland coast south of 38° 00′ N Latitude (near Point Reyes in Marin County) no longer poses a significant human health risk from high levels of domoic acid and recommends the opening of the Dungeness crab fishery in these areas in a manner consistent with the emergency regulations.
