Increased Efforts to Combat Algal Blooms Requested by Governor
Governor Rick Scott met with White House Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney to continue advocating for full funding for the repairs to the Herbert Hoover Dike surrounding Lake Okeechobee. The Governor also spoke about the importance of the federal government quickly approving the EAA reservoir project, which will hold more water south of Lake Okeechobee. For decades, Congress has failed to address these issues and Governor Scott has fought for these projects which will ultimately help minimize harmful water releases to the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee Rivers and Estuaries that can cause algae to bloom.

CDFW increased patrols following several recent gross overlimit cases on crappie anglers in the San Joaquin Valley
In one case, a wildlife officer contacted three anglers in Madera County in the early morning hours of April 12 as they pulled their boat from a local lake. They were in combined possession of 404 crappie. Subtracting out a legal limit of 25 fish each, they were in possession of a combined overlimit of 329 crappie.

Recreational Fishing Participation Increased Nearly 20 Percent Over the Past 10 Years
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has released its initial report of the 2016 National Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation national survey. The survey, conducted every five years in partnership with the U.S. Census Bureau, shows that fishing participation is up nearly 20 percent over the last 10 years. Anglers also increased their overall spend by 2.4 percent during the past five years.

Sea Tow Reports Increased Boater Call Volume Over July 4th Weekend
Sea Tow Services International, Inc., America's leading commercial on-water assistance provider, reported a 47-percent increase in the volume of calls for assistance received by its national 24-Hour Dispatch Center over the four-day July 4th weekend, July 2-5, 2015, compared with the same holiday weekend period in 2014.
