CCA Calls for Actions on South Florida Estuary Disaster issues, CCA Florida has also taken several action steps due to the damaging green algae bloom which originally appeared in Lake Okeechobee this year and has since found its way in the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee estuaries. CCA Florida has taken the following actions in the last couple of weeks on behalf of its members:

Proposed No Take Zones in South Florida
Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) supports healthy fisheries and habitat, including our coral reefs. When appropriate CCA has supported a number of spawning season area closures in the South Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico. CCA has an active habitat restoration and artificial reefs placement program.

Study Reports Drop in Recreational Catch Rate of Dolphin off South Carolina
Even with a marginal improvement of fishing in May, the fishing fell short of the catch rate for the three-month period of May, June, and July observed in 2014. The overall average number of fish caught per trip this year was 15.7 percent lower than noted for the same period in 2014.

Trip Limit Decreased for Commercial Harvest of Gag Grouper in South Atlantic
The daily trip limit for the commercial harvest of gag in the South Atlantic is reduced from 1,000 pounds gutted weight to 500 pounds gutted weight, effective 12:01 a.m. (local time) October 18, 2015. Florida FWC Approves Barracuda Conservation Measures for South Florida
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) at its Sept. 3 meeting in Fort Lauderdale approved new recreational and commercial bag limits for barracuda for waters off south Florida.

Snowy Grouper Opens in South Atlantic Aug. 20
The recreational sector for snowy grouper in the South Atlantic Region will re-open on August 20, 2015, with an annual catch limit of 23,647 pounds gutted weight or 4,152 fish.
