Trapper Tackle is well-known for its unique hooks. They did win back-to-back ICAST Best of Show Awards after all. Since then they have continued to innovate and bring new products to the market including a lead-alternative weight, a whole line of soft-plastics, hard baits, and have collaborated with other tackle makers to include Trapper’s hooks on their products.
Here is a rundown of five new things that Trapper has been cooking up.
Kyoto Rig
This is one of the hottest techniques in bass fishing right now, and Trapper Tackle has developed their own product, The Kyoto Rig, that features their patented X-heavy offset wide gap hook.
The basic premise of this rig is to give anglers a way to punch cover with the appeal of a drop-shot rig. The bait is a few inches above the weight, and a wire leader connects it. This allows anglers to use any bait they prefer and also adjust their weight sizes based on the conditions and thickness of the vegetation.
Unlike most punching situations, the weight is separated from the bait, and this helps to increase your odds at getting a good hookset since the hook and bait move freely.
Trapper’s Kyoto Rig comes as a two pack and includes the components you need to get started minus the weight and soft plastic. Use what you like and go fishing. They also offer it as a kit that includes everything. The wires split rings, swivels, glass beads, Trapper Hooks as well as Trapper's LEI tungsten weights and quality Zee Bait creature baits.
Soft-Plastics and Hard Baits
A new addition to Trapper Tackle’s lineup is a selection of some of the most popular styles of soft plastics on the market. Soft stick baits, finesse works, small swimbaits, and craw imitators are proven styles of baits and Trapper now makes them all.
Their soft stickbaits are biodegradable and full of salt and garlic scent. The rest of the lineup also features the same environmentally friendly plastic and comes in different scents to match the color and bait style they imitate. For example, the Trapper Tackle Swim Bait is fish scented, and the Green Pumpkin Big Daddy Craw features a crawfish scent.
For hard baits, Trapper has their lineup that includes the Schooling Square Bill and Schooling Jerkbait that, of course, feature the sharp Trapper Treble Hooks.

Low Environmental Impact (LEI) Weights
Lead is used in many different fishing products, and it is also in danger (and even banned) in some states. Both anglers and manufacturers are looking for alternatives and tungsten is a great option but is cost prohibitive. LEI bridges the gap as a lower cost alternative that is still smaller and more sensitive than lead.
Trapper uses this technology for their jigs, but also drop-shot weights, nail insert weights and more. Their LEI Finesse Weights look realistic and give your soft plastic a fishy look. They are available in three packs in 3/16 and 5/16 ounce sizes.
Freestyle Swim Jig - 5-piece Pro's Choice Box
This swim jig utilizes Trapper’s proven hook design and is built right into one of the best styles of jigs going. The Freestyle Swim Jig also feature’s Trapper’s unique Low Environmental Impact (LEI) lead-alternative metal. Each jig has a unique molded head and line tie that helps to prevent snags.
The five-piece kit was put together by professional anglers and is specifically for western or southern waters. Each of the two packages has different colors that work great in those regions.
The Western kit includes Cash Gill, Purple Copper Haze, Bleeding Shad, Clear Hitch, and Spring Gill. For the Southern assortment, it includes Spring Gill, Cash Gill, Midnight Shad, Purple Copper Haze, and White Silver Holographic. Both kits come in either 3/8 ounce or ½ ounce sizes and come with a tackle box.
Lure Collabs
Trapper has successfully brought their hooks to lure manufacturers for use in those products. They’ve teamed up with Rat-L-Trap to create the Rat-L-Trapper and they are also working with Rock-N-Reel Custom Lures to develop a spinnerbait and the "BuzzTrap"buzzbait.
One more collaboration is the Trapper Custom Plop-R, jerkbait, square bill, and TrapTease trout by Martease.
